Why haven't more conservatives jumped the Republican ship?

UUHHHH...I'll take "no place to jump to" for $500, Gondring.

Maybe with a different candidate it could.

I think the Republican party will need to learn how to handle primaries better before that really happens.

Mitt Romney faced a lot of anti-Mormon hatred.
Giuliani faced a lot of hatred for a variety of reasons.
There was sniping at the other candidates for one reason or another. That's the nature of primaries. We ended up with McCain, who is bland and middle-of-the-road. Not too many people are happy with the outcome.

If the GOP found a strong, principled black Conservative to run in 2012, I suspect that many Republicans would try to destroy that candidate during the primary process. This would not endear us to the black community. I don't have a solution, but I do not think that we need to stay tied to the politics of personal destruction. We will never get the results we need by going down that well-traveled path.

I guess what I meant was that the structure of government doesn’t allow us uneducated voters to vote for really stupid laws on a whim. You are right that the provisions of the constitution are often violated, but at least we have one that at least slows things down.

Bob, when African Americans are looking for a favor, they go to the Democrats. Same thing my Irish-American ancestors did many decades ago. If Republicans want to make inroads into the African-American community, I think they’re going to have to organize deep in the African-American community.

How to know whether you are racist:

If Obama was white and McCain was black who would you vote for?

Several years ago, I took a black co-worker point by point through the Republican platform. She agreed with every single plank. Then, I told her that she’d just agreed with the entire Republican platform and asked her if she would consider voting Republican instead of Democrat. She said no. Stunned, I asked her why.

Her answer was simple: “Because Republicans hate black people.”

Until we as conservatives figure out a way to combat that lie, Dems will continue getting 90% of the African American vote. The Dems WILL continue spreading it, and we do nothing to stop it.

Conservatives continue to get kicked in the teeth by the Republican party, yet still keep going back.

The Democrats is the party for the rich people while the Republicans is the party of the middle class.

I’ve heard Charles Barkley talk about the importance of blacks taking responsibility for themselves and not relying on the government. It seemed that his head was in the right place. IIRC, after he was questioned about it, he was pretty quick to make it clear that he is not a republican.

A majority of them never will. It would be a pipe dream to ever think a black would adopt the principles of conservatism.

Culturally they have been modified into dependency by democrat policies. The great society only accelerated the demise of the black community/family. The democrat party with it liberal platform is in fact appeasement to the black community. Political correctness is pandering to the provide me with an excuse for my condition attitude.

Don't get me wrong, I applaud those who have seen they can do better for themselves as opposed to expecting a handout that never accomplishes the intent. It does not appear that with the current political climate, those who have generationaly learned to expect something are less likely to work for it.

The black conservatives I know, and know of have one thing in common:
they have a fighting spirit.... an unrelenting will to accomplish anything on their own.... refusing to give up their principles or ideals for anything.

Which leads them to live good lives, full of hope and optimism. Loving people that put God, family, and country above all else. True patriots.

Agreed. The problem is there are very few of them and those courageous enough to have those principles, values and beliefs are demonized as Uncle Toms and traitors to “their people”. Only envy and jealously allow those to criticize those who choose to think and do for themselves.

You know, this discussion leads to the doubts surrounding Barack Obama:
he says he’s a patriot..... but I’d ask him and other black Americans one question: would you be willing to put your life on the line for your country?

In life there are things you must be willing to die for. The average black American wouldn’t die for this nation. In fact the average lib wouldn’t die for this nation. Barack Obama wouldn’t die for this nation.

I don’t care for John McCain’s politics, but he is a living example of an American willing to suffer the ultimate consequence for his nation. He doesn’t need to say it, as he has lived it.

When black Americans get serious about America, then we will see them jump the Democrat ship.

There my friend, is the money quote. I do not believe most black Americans actually believe in the potential that is America. Therefore, they do not respect its history(good and bad) and thus are unable to promote its future. They in fact are stuck in time continuum that places emphasis on the past, it wrongs and what still should be done to avenge those injustices. Any current perceived injustice warranted or not is viewed through the prism of past racial injustices regardless of the advances made by those who refuse to be pigeon hole into racial plight. Enter Jesse Jackson, Sharpton et al.

Those supposed civil rights leaders will not recognize the successes of the few as it will encourage the masses and thus their race hustling will no longer be necessary. Recent comment regarding castration of Hussein Obama in fact is what Jackson would if given the opportunity figuratively would do. Until black American leaders discard the past, work within the present and focus on the future, black Americans in this country will continue to homogenize themselves as they have done since the days of post civil war reconstruction less inclined to see their potential and more incline to accept their self imposed status quo.

Pandering politicians and social policies do not help and only condition those who feel they have not received the equal justice afforded them by efforts to correct the past.

You are correct in that the average black will not die for the country understanding its principles, morals, values and beliefs. Political correctness that hyphenates ancestry with America only promotes division by race, ethnicity and in some cases class. Until we drop the PC bulls$hit, we will continue to forge differences where their should be none. If it appears I have a pessimistic view of the political landscape with respect to blacks, it is only because it appears there has not been nor will there be an effort strong enough within the black community to recognize their plight and condition is harbored within the democrat party and unfortunately that does include black leaders in the democrat party.

Poverty is a symptom, not a problem.

It is a symptom of: criminality, immorality, drug and alcohol addiction, dishonesty, laziness, pessimism, cynicism, racism. Want to be poor? Father a few illegitimate children and get a felony conviction. It'll work every time.

Oh sure, there is aunt MArge whose husband died unexpectedly with no insurance, but the foregoing is true for 90% of all poor.
