For the next hour I sat behind the glass panel of the control booth and watched Limbaugh at work in front of the golden E.I.B. microphone. Unlike Howard Stern or Don Imus, he has no sidekicks with him in the room. He does, however, keep up a running conversation with an unheard voice. I always assumed that this was just imaginary radio shtick. Now I saw that the voice was attached to a human interlocutor, Snerdly, who banters with and occasionally badgers Limbaugh via an internal talk-back circuit.
After the broadcast, Limbaugh waved me into the studio and offered me a seat directly across from him. The rooms acoustics make it relatively easy for him to hear, but he also reads lips.
I had come to talk to Limbaugh about his role in Republican Party politics. During the primaries he assailed John McCain as a phony conservative and apostate Reaganite. Despite Limbaughs best efforts, it now appeared that the Arizona senator would be the nominee. There was speculation that Limbaugh would not support him in November.
Ive never even met the man, never spoken to him, Limbaugh said. Im sure there are things about him Id like if we meet. This isnt personal. He then delivered a litany of the presumptive nominees personal failings too old, too intense, too opportunistic, too liberal. But, he assured me, he would be with McCain in the fall.
It already seemed, when I made my visit, that McCains opponent might well be Senator Obama, and I was curious to know how Limbaugh planned to take on Americas first African-American major-party nominee. Ill approach Obama with fearless honesty, said Limbaugh, who speaks of himself in heroic terms on air and off. Hes a liberal. I oppose liberals. Thats all thats involved here.

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
I’d like to read the entire article but I took a vow of total abstinence where the NYT is concerned.
BTW, I had no idea Bo was black. If Rush was a liberal, he’d be wearing Mr. Snerdley out in public like a lapel pin to show how unbiased he is. Typical Limbaugh class.
Yes Virginia, there really is a Bo Snerdly...
And a hell of a guy, from my brief encounter.
Bo is the “Official Obama Criticizer” on the show. He does a great job.
Is this the famed James Golden?
Ouch.
Indeed, it is.
Oh, no, he didn'!!
Well, this is the New York Times, so you might be right.
I have a video of RUSH’S N.O RUSH to Excellence Tour where he “outed” James
Great to see the Great Bo..love his disertations as the OOC..what a rich voice he has and what a hoot the message becomes for the dudes in “da hood”.
Beauuuuuuuuuuuutiful quote!
That photo was taken at the FR inaugural (and “Count the White House Silverware”) party, Jan., 2001.
It is interesting and disturbing that during the 1982 Israel/Lebanon/PLO war, Zev Chafetz pointed out that the Liberal media's reporting on that closely resembled the racist "Thunderbolt" magazine.
However, an interesting article, well-written and something you have to read all the way through.
Dang Bo is a good looking guy.
