Two decades have passed since the demonic denizens, Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal, wandered the world of Sanctuary in a vicious rampage to shackle humanity into unholy slavery. Yet for those who battled the Prime Evils directly, the memory fades slowly and the wounds of the soul still burn.
When Deckard Cain returns to the ruins of Tristram's Cathedral seeking clues to new stirrings of evil, a comet from the heavens strikes the very ground where Diablo once entered the world. The comet carries a dark omen in its fiery being and it calls the heroes of Sanctuary to defend the mortal world against the rising powers of the Burning Hells and even the failing luminaries of the High Heavens itself.
I thought Diablo III was that nuclear power plant in San Luis Obispo.
Um.... ok. Thanks. Bye.
I thought Blizzard announced years ago that they hated Diablo and under no circumstances would release an upgrade. In fact, I had heard that most of the coders who built the original had left.
I guess there's no motivator quite as effective as money ...
You heard wrong about the first part. The second part is semi true—many of the original desiners have left. However, this team has likely been working on this game for 6-7 years. They are not hurting for money as World of Warcraft is likely the most profitable game ever made and will be the most profitable game ever made for a very, very long time.
I’ve been giving some thought to playing WoW. Never played before. How hard is for a n00b to get started in a game that’s been around for so long?
Easiest thing in the world to start...Not so easy to quit. :-)
just make sure you pick a server with decent people. Don’t settle for the first server you try, unless you get really lucky. :) It really helps if you know someone who plays, and wants you to join their guild.
I liked it alot, but can only rationalize one pay to play game at a time, and City of Heroes is my game of choice. :)
Good luck.
Now to stay on the topic of the thread....DIII oooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh *drool*
LongElegantLegs probably stated it best. :~D
I found it easy to get started.
Some learning involved but that’s part of the fun.
They offer a 10 day free trial.
Try it out and see if you enjoy it.
It’ll be released in a twin-pack with Duke Nukem Forever.
I played Diablo 2 and then started playing Everquest about 6 years ago. I’ve been playing Everquest ever since.
Never heard of City of Heroes. I looked it up and it sounds interesting. Is it any good?
What other online games do you guys play?
I don’t play online. I’ve been playing Diablo II: Lord of Destruction (in single-player mode) for seven years, and it’s still fun!
Cool game. Fighting the denizens of hell is almost as fun as fighting liberals. ;-)
There’s a difference? :P
I’m excited about this. I didn’t see anything specific about release dates (maybe buried in their boards) but if you look at Blizz’s hiring page, it looks like they’re hiring an entire MMORPG operations/dev staff.
The screenshots are decent. I have the impression it will be single player/battlenet, probably not enough content for an MMO, and they already used a lot of the locations in WoW, even peripherally. I’d buy it either way, I’ve loved this game for ages :)
Everquest 2000 to 2006 (now occasionally)
World of Warcraft 2005 to present
But this is the game I’ve been waiting for :)
Awesome. Bring on the Rogue-like goodness!
Heck yeah! Played D1 and D2, and LOD. Still have them on my hard drive.
I’d bet it’ll be a couple years, though. They announced SC2 what, a year ago, and I haven’t heard a beta or a release date, and WotLK (WoW expansion) is due for beta soon, so they’ve been pretty busy.
I could play no other game after quake1 ctf. ahhh the visceral thrill of jamming my grappling hook into an opponent, then burying my ax into him, hopefully with the haste rune and/or while quad.
