Barack Obama wows Hollywood

Hollywood stars have thrown their support and abundant cash behind US presidential candidate Barack Obama, whose historic White House bid could easily become the stuff of movies.

The fundraising gala on Tuesday in Los Angeles marked a decided push by Obama to shore up private funding for his race against Republican John McCain.

The story of Obama, the son of a Kenyan father and a mother from Kansas, who could now become the first black US president, resonates in the entertainment industry, which has typically voted Democratic.

The event, in which top tickets went for more than US$30 000, drew top-tier celebrities like actors Don Cheadle, Dennis Quaid and boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard.

Also in attendance was Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am, who created two music videos for Obama during the primary season, including one called Yes We Can that set music to clips from his speeches and became an internet sensation.

Beyond the fundraising, the event reflects the continuing push by Obama to pull together support within the party after a divisive primary battle against Clinton, whose husband, former president Bill Clinton, had long been viewed as a darling of the entertainment industry.

Obama appealed to the those in the crowd who might have supported his former foe. "The long primary," he said, "I know caused some heartburn and some frustration." He said he and Clinton "were allies then, and we're allies now".

Also in California this week, McCain was capitalising on his bit of star-power, appearing at an energy round-table alongside Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to call for greater conservation and green technology.

So Hollywood is “wowed” by a lefty who supports giving immunity to telephone companies, the death penalty for child rapists, and individual gun rights (re: DCvHeller, supposedly)?!

Gee, this is the farthest to the Right that Hollywood has been since the Red Scare!

The Lefties in Hollywood have way to much money and absolutely no brains.

The media is putting all bets on Obama's White House bid.

They will stop at nothing to support his machinery, and they are totally shameless with their BS.

What a disgusting "profession" journalism is these days.

It really doesn’t take much to entertain a Hollywood idiot..
It can easily be done by a Chicago black racist idiot...

Heck, finding an AP “journalist” or “reporter” who DOES NOT HATE Republicans or W is like finding a brain cell in Sharon Stone.

Hollywood... something that I actually agree with the French on.

The French are scared of Hollywood. The French film industry is in the tank and has been for years. They are sad and upset that people only want to watch Hollywood movies not French ones. The Italians also banned Americans from their film awards this year and made it clear they want Italians to stop liking Hollywood movies.

Sadly for them, WE RULE!!!!

What is a pro-bono ad like that worth as a campaign contribution and did they file with the FEC?
