Forced Marriages in U.K.: Problem Explodes After Recent Policy Changes

"Miss Rawlins, I Need Help"

Forced Marriages

In 1999 the British Labour Party, in one of those boneheaded acts that the left excels at, made a seemingly minor adjustment to it's immigration policy that doomed many thousands of young girls to death, beatings, and a nightmare life. In January 2000 The Independent reported that thousands of young U.K. Muslim girls were being forced into marriages to foreigners, primarily Pakistanis. Many of these girls were third generation Brits, with only a rudimentary understanding of their new language. The groom was often a cousin, a visa seeker--or something worse. And it is not only her life that is affected. A great number of the reported kidnappings involve U.K. fiances or boyfriends.

Huge Rise In Forced Marriages

"The biggest rise came after the new Labour government, in one of its first measures last year, simplified the procedures for a British person wanting to bring their spouse to settle in Britain. They abandoned the hated "Primary Purpose Rule," which made consular staff rule on whether the main purpose of the marriage was to gain entry into the UK before issuing a visa.

In February last year, before the rules were changed, the High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan, issued 255 visas to spouses. This year it issued 1,132, nearly five times as many.

Critics say the result is a flourishing trade in forced marriages, with British-born and educated women spirited abroad to lives of misery married to men they have never met. Often, they are virtual prisoners in remote villages.

Some girls, as young as three, are forced into Muslim marriages in some countries, such as Afghanistan.

This is disturbing because it may be something we're headed for in the future. If the definition of "marriage" keeps changing, who's to say it has to be between two consenting adults?

By 2005, law enforcement authorities in the U.K. received more than 5,000 complaints of which 300 were investigated. Interestingly enough, some of those calling for help–not likely to be forthcoming–were males. It seem Muslim males are no more happy to marry an unknown cousin from a rural Pakistani village; they find the proposition no more palatable than marrying their sister

Britain is in deep doo doo.

The leftists always brag about how much they help women.

Are you kidding? Through their tireless work, feminists have been able to secure choice tee times for women in country clubs across the US.

3rd generation just now learning English? Took a while, did it not? Follow the $$$. My Finnish grandfolks did not allow the grandkids to speak Finnish. Do not worry—this is their problem, not ours.

No, third generation just learning Urdu or whatever they speak in Pakistan. They grew up speaking English in the UK. They are forced to learn the Middle Eastern/Central Asian languages often shortly before they are sent there for the weddings.

There was a time (circa 1812 or thereabouts) it was actually popular among the common folk in Finland to learn Russian.

The upper-class people and titled nobility were making haste fast to learn English and get outta' there.

BTW, that's the year the Swedes had to give up Finland as an independent Duchy to the Czar of Russia.

The only titled nobility I've found actually sticking around had already made arrangements for employment in the vast new Czarist efforts to open up Siberia for development.

That included ALL of Siberia all the way to the Pacific, and for some, all the way to Alaska and then California, and then finally Jackson County, Indiana (where they already had some cousins engaged in the new enterprise of opening up the Ohio Valley).

You will sometimes run across a Russian Orthodox cross on top of a grave in some of the pioneer graveyards there. That's why.

From the text.

In 1999 the British Labour Party, in one of those boneheaded acts that the left excels at, made a seemingly minor adjustment act to it's immigration policy that doomed many thousands of young girls to death, beatings and a nightmare life.

Ah yes, the so-called Labour Party. I remember as a young socialistic person, full of power to the workers et al, in that country. A quiet conservative standing next to me and not wishing jibe, said this:

The name, Labour, means two million votes alone to your party.

Today, one reads of Tony Blair and his wife, she, a barrister, getting over a half million dollars a year. Most of 'em never saw work, as a worker. Good for them.

It was in 1893 that reformer George Bernard Shaw wrote his play, "Mrs Warren's Profession". In New York in 1905 the police arrested everyone at the theatre and charged the manager. Morals you know!.

The play? Simply put, an expose of hypocritical Victorian society. The tragic fact of young women working 12 hours a day in a lead factory. 9 shillings ($1.90 cents) a week. Disease was rampant. The play goes on to explain what a strong young woman's mother, did for a living. This in order to save her daughter from the misery of exploitation. She runs a high class brothel. The girl is horrified and starts work as a typist. She cannot reconcile what has taken place, which is young women being forced into prostitution.

The Labour Party is worse than the bloated system, that fed off the poor working class in Victorian times. At least the Victorian working class girl, could try to latch onto a man of her choice and exit. There was at least the right to walk away.
