LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Jennifer Granholm as expected has rejected a proposed ban on a late-term procedure that opponents call partial-birth abortion.
Granholm announced Friday she vetoed the bill recently passed by the state Legislature.
The bill was designed to mirror a federal ban that was ruled constitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court last year. The state-level measure does not include an exception for a mother's health, which Granholm says is why she won't support it.
Granholm vetoed a 2004 ban, but hundreds of thousands of voters signed petitions that allowed the bill to become law with only the approval of the Legislature. Federal courts later declared that ban unconstitutional.

Students confront Pro-Abort ‘Catholic’ Candidate Jennifer Granholm...
ANN ARBOR, Michigan, Sep 12, 02 (LSN.ca/CWNews.com) - A pro-life homily delivered by Cardinal Adam Maida of Detroit at the opening of the school year at Ave Maria Law School has inspired pro-life political activism. A group of students from the Law School attended a meet-and-greet pancake breakfast Saturday where Michigan gubernatorial candidates Jennifer Granholm and opponent Dick Posthumus were to shake hands and discuss issues with hundreds of voters.
Their goal was to meet Granholm face to face and challenge her strong support for abortion since she bills herself as a practicing Catholic. Unlike her opponent, Granholm left the event after her brief turn at the griddle, breaking protocol for candidates who attend this annual event. Granholm offered a short, impersonal response as her entourage hastily shuffled her away as it was evident that a sizeable contingent of the participants were pro-lifers.
One of the student’s shirt bore the message “Granholm: Catholic? Pro-abortion-murder? Which is she?” and another shirt asked, “If Granholm lies about her religion, how can we trust her as Governor?”
Student Suzanne Housey said she was asking “Granholm to either stop masquerading as a Catholic, or stop advocating this unspeakable crime as good public policy.” When asked how she could make such a serious charge against Granholm, Housey noted that she is only repeating the official teaching of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops regarding abortion: “No public official, especially one claiming to be a faithful and serious Catholic, can responsibly advocate for or actively support direct attacks on innocent human life.”
In his August 30 homily Cardinal Maida said: “In our culture today, a Catholic school of law has a particular challenge in trying to ensure that all laws truly promote the dignity of human life, from the first moment of conception until last natural breath .... The Church and Catholic lawyers must be always ready to speak and act in such a way that the dignity of life is promoted and defended on every level.”
Bleed’em with taxes... kill’em just as they’re comin’ out of the womb. The DNC plantation should be named... “Misery”.
Views like this will come to D.C. if Barack Obama is elected.
A Liberal Democrat prevented a restriction on abortion. That’s not news. It’s simply par for the course.

Granholm is in the state of mortal sin because she supports abortion. ANY priest who gives her Communion also commits a mortal sin, because by doing so, he proclaims publicly that she is NOT in the state of mortal sin, which is a lie. Any bishop who allows Granholm and other public supporters of abortion to receive Communion is also in the state of mortal sin, because he is displaying complacency about abortion, heresy, and sacrilegious reception of the Eucharist.
Which means that all but about one dozen bishops in the U.S. are habitually in the state of mortal sin. Which explains a lot about many problems in the Catholic Church.
Granholm and her fellow “Catholic” and “moderate” Gov Sebelius are 2 of a kind. Never too many dead babies. How they sicken me.
What difference would this legislation have made? There’s still the federal PBA ban.

Sorry to respond to your comment on a different thread, but this is what makes me, I don’t know...disillusioned with how the church handles this type of politician. Granholm actually brags about being pro-abortion, completely defies church teachings. She has the nerve to present herself at communion, but so far no priest has had the nerve to deny her. It can be done, too, with very little fanfare. The priest need only lay a hand on her head and say “God bless you,” as most Eucharistic ministers do for underage children. I can’t see a regular Eucharistic minister, a member of the laity, denying communion, but I pray that some day a member of the clergy will.

The federal ban has no health exception and the SCOTUS said that was fine. The Michigan bill still seems redundant to me.

Michigan deserves its status as the most backward state in the Union. They have the highest unemployment rate, their major city is a hell hole of drugs, corruption and crime, and they still march like little lemmings to the polls to vote for Democrats. What a bunch of greedy maroons!

That's the dirty little secret of partial birth abortion. The procedure is NOT indicated, if there is a medical emergency, because it takes 24 hours for the cervix to be prepared, so it will relax and widen enough for the baby to be delivered. The hormones would naturally do this when the baby decides it's ready to be born, but in an abortion, in order for the baby to be dead when it arrives, it has to be delivered in the natural way, then killed before it has the chance to take a breath, so it's dead when it's delivered.
A Caeserian wouldn't work, because the intent is to deliver a dead baby, not a live one.
