Marriage by capture is certainly a well known phenomenon amoung anthropolgists. The question is whether the women were passive or active participants.
When I was young, the other preteen girls and I [ranging in age from 10-13] had a game. We called it “let’s throw rocks at the boys across the creek and get them to chase us.” Pretty soon they would run through the creek, up the embankment and chase us through the surrounding woods. I was never caught and was complaining about this to one of the other girls. She said, “well, why don’t you slow down a little?” I was shocked, “what, slow down, if they are not good enough to catch me, I don’t want them.”
That’s how the Spartans did it. :’)
