When he heard she was not 18, he went to her father.

Oh yeah. That's exactly what I too would have done.

Or maybe I'd go straight to the police. And turn myself in.

What a doofus.

I am in no way condoning statutory rape. However, I'm not sure this guy should be punished so harshly as: 1) This girl was explicitly portraying herself as 18; and 2) She has a history of doing this.

I'm not sure a good slap on the wrist to the man, and a harder slap on the girl, might not have been the appropriate response here.

Send her father an anonymous letter maybe but go to him and say, “I had sex with your underaged daughter”? That’s just stupid.

Lots of 13-16 year old girls out there that look to be in their 20s. Better ask for a birth certificate.

"One of the reasons for the law is the fact that minors have poor judgment," said Jerry Dean, the girl's father.

Too bad there isn't a law against being a complete failure as a father.

And another is for stupid parents who are unable to control their kids. My gut reaction is that dad should get rung up for some sort of neglect for allowing this to happen a second time.

Sounds like there might be a need for organized dating clubs in the land with strict membership requirements. If you’re not going to be married, you need something more organized than just hooking up with people you see on the street.

Say, I have an idea. Check it out:

What if you DON’T have SEX with anyone you’re not MARRIED to?

Strict liability is a bear. Any underage girl could tie up a random adult male, shoot him up with viagra and rohypnol (sp?), and force herself upon him, and HE would still be the one to go to jail. Statutory rape rules do not care about the details.

The fact that he went to the father tells me that he thought he was engaged in a relationship, and not just banging a young honey. Imagine finding out that what you thought was a decent relationship actually wasn't... and will actually land you in jail, no matter the circumstnaces. Then when you find out that she had done it before... rough day.

This girl has a big future for several years as a Police Decoy for Entrapment cases. That would get her off the hook, although, it seems she really has never been “on” the hook. She and her father should be the ones punished.
This is one sickening story. Hard to believe, even though there seems to be a story like this from somewhere every month or so, that there are judges this bad in the USA.

Unfortunate turn of events, but I’m on the side of the law as it was written and as it was applied in this case.

Ulysses Everett McGill: Deceitful, two-faced she-woman. Never trust a female Delmar, remember that one simple precept and your time with me will not have been ill spent.

Delmar O'Donnell: Ok, Everett.

Ulysses Everett McGill: Hit by a train! Truth means nothing to a woman, Delmar. Trying for the subjective. You ever been with a woman?

Delmar O'Donnell: Well, I... I... I gotta get the family farm back before I can start thinking about that.

Ulysses Everett McGill: That's right, if then. Believe me Delmar, woman is the most fiendish instrument of torture ever devised to bedevil the days of man.

Dean's family admits Alisha still stays out late and has yet to delete her misleading MySpace page.

The Dean family is a public menace. The daughter should be in juvie and the Dad in the workhouse for reckless endangerment.

Contrast lack of Children’s Protective Services actions, with those of Texas CPS vs. the FLDS people.
