After twenty years of sitting with apparent acquiescence in the pews of Trinity United Church of Christ, after doing a slow-motion backslide from the Reverend Jeremiah Wright when the campaign spotlight flickered on, a backslide that eventually ended in an open break, Senator Barack Obama has now officially cut his ties with Trinity UCC altogether. Faced with a choice between bringing change to his own congregation, or simply turning his back, Obama chose the latter.
As he would do in Iraq, so he has now done with Trinity. The question now is, will he leave the United Church of Christ as well?
In a halting South Dakota press conference, Obama had no answer as to where he and wife Michelle would now be worshipping. Said the denominational president of the UCC, the Reverend John Thomas:
"Obviously, we are saddened that Barack and Michelle Obama have decided to resign their membership at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. And we are hopeful that, as they discern their future church membership plans, that they will consider retaining their United Church of Christ membership in another UCC congregation."
Thomas added: "It's also important to name the painful reality that many candidates and public officials now find it nearly impossible to be an active member of a particular religious community, given our divisive political culture. Faith is rooted in community. Persons in public office should have the same opportunity, as the rest of us, to experience the worship, prayers and close personal friendships that congregational participation affords."
Poppycock.
The United Church of Christ has walked itself so far out on a left-wing political limb that no one of any real sensibility could not have seen this coming.

Aparrently in his book Obamba himself says he was at leasst agnostic and it wasn’t Christ that drew him to Trinity but the “Liberation Theology”. Only when he found that this version of “chritianity” validated his anger at whites was he then interested in faith at all.

And yet, he dutifully accepted to let his daughters, young minds be polluted every Sunday by this pastor's vitriol... and to see the shameless reactions that unbridled, racist hatred generated from his fellow parisioners.
His answer could put to rest the charge that he is Muslim. He cannot be both Christian and Muslim.
Well, now, you've nailed the most important point in all of this controversy (I wouldn't waste my time reading his book but I'm glad you've found this nugget from some excerpt). He embraces Black Liberation Theology -- and he's spent 20 years in the pews where this has been the fundamental philosophy of these haters. Is America ready to elect as president someone imbued with this philosophy, with this belief system? He's left his church but I'm sure he hasn't left his beliefs. And you can see that belief system in his wife, Michelle.
To borrow and tranform a phrase, it's his character, stupid! It's his belief system. Black Liberation Theology.
Now that’s simply not fair. He left the church, put the minister aside and stated none of this deals with the issues we need to talk about. We must not ever discuss any of the past or it becomes obvious we are nothing more than racists. The past is the past so we should learn to concentrate on the changes that need to be made for the future. (sarc off)

I have had concerns about Senator Obama,s honesty regarding his so called Christian faith.
I called The United Church of Christ in Chicago Illinois, where Senator Obama is a member. If Senator Obama were indeed a Christian, he would be regarded as an “Apostate” which according to Islamic Law, would mean he would be subject to a death warrant imposed upon anyone who leaves Islam, according to the Prophet Mohammed. Many muslims who have left Islam have been murdered on this basis worldwide. Putting Islamic law aside, Obama would still be condemned by Islam. However, in Senator Obama’s instance, Muslims in America are joyously happy to think that Obama would be a Muslim President in the white House. Obama is deceiving America. Muslims would not be endorsing a Muslim who left Islam and became a Christian.
It is important to note that I had four witnesses to this telephone conversation with his church. The date, time and length of the entire conversation can be verified by phone records. The following is the conversation I had with the church, regarding his membership there.
“My name is Usama, and I am from Egypt. I am interested in joining the church. I need to ask some questions please.” The operator directed me to the membership office. I proceeded to ask questions that only a Muslim would ask. “What is the difference between Baptists and your church?” She responded, “ We believe exactly what Baptists believe.” My second question was, “How big is your church and what kind of church is it?” She responded, “We are a Black African American Church and we have 6000 members. I asked, “Do I have to attend Sunday school classes or other meetings to be a member?” She answered “No.” I asked, “Do I have to be baptized to join the church?” She again answered, “No.” I asked, “Do I have to pay a membership Fee to join?” Her answer was No. I then asked her what I needed to do to join. She told me that I needed to attend two Sunday School classes in a row and then I would walk the aisle. I replied, “That sounds easy. One last question please. IF I AM MUSLIM AND I BELIEVE IN PROPHET MOHAMMED, PEACE BE UPON HIM AND I ALSO BELIEVE IN JESUS, PEACE BE UPON HIM, DO I HAVE TO GIVE UP MY ISLAMIC FAITH TO BE A MEMBER IN YOUR CHURCH?” SHE ANSWERED, “NO. WE HAVE MANY MUSLIM MEMBERS IN OUR CHURCH.” It is important to note that Muslims would not attend church.
I asked her, “Is that how Senator Barak Hussein Obama became a member?” There was silence. I went on and stated that his father and step father were Muslims, his grandfathers and grandmother are Muslims, his uncles and aunts, nephews and nieces and cousins are Muslims and everyone in his family in Kenya are Muslims. She replied to me, “I am sorry, I cannot answer these questions for you.” I of course sensed she was uncomfortable. I ended the conversation by saying to her, “YOUR CHURCH HAS DONE GREAT HARM TO THIS COUNTRY BY COVERING A WOLF IN SHEEPS CLOTHING AND THAT WOLF IS SENATOR BORAK HUSSEIN OBAMA.” End of phone call.
This is fraud to the people of the United States of America.

Absurd!!!! Even a moron must think instantly of George and Laura Bush and innumerable other presidents and politicians who maintain a Christian church relationship while campaigning and in office.

What you have put forth is indeed scary and troubling. I’ve always felt he was raised a Muslim in Indonesia (from what I’ve read), became agnostic and when his political ambitions suited him, he became a Christian. However, you have put a different spin on this altogether. Of course one person manning a phone bank at a church does not give us conclusive evidence, but it is indeed troubling and needs to be investigated more. Some reporter should find out if they indeed have practicing Muslims that attend that Church.

I have always been against this notion of separation of church and state. Many conservative churches have been attacked and threatened with revoking their 501 c (3) status. Are there organizations that do the same thing against Lib. churches?
Barack's own mother rejected American society to wed (or at least bed) two Muslim men, both of whom had other wives, and spent most of her life in foreign countries, lest she be tainted by America.
Maybe he never quit his mosque. There is apparently no church record of Hussein ObamaMessiaHamas being baptized.
