Yep. Bietak claimed a site in the eastern delta of the Nile was Avaris, but I think he’s given up that view. More recent work has pushed the location further east all the time. My guess is, this is part of or stems from the public relations campaign by the “gyppos” (that’s the cool knock-name used in the HBO series “Rome”) to sell people on moving into the Sinai along that coastal canal.
