"Obama said that Charlie Payne was the uncle who helped to liberate Buchenwald."

Do you have a link to that? The only reason I ask is because in the clip I saw he referred to his uncle and the press release said his uncle. I never saw anything that named the uncle. Another interesting thing to know would be is if Charlie Payne is indeed the only great uncle he had and if he is still alive. It would be interesting to hear him interviewed. For me, I don't care if my grandson was running for President or not, I would be upset with him if he distorted my war record or distorted anything I ever said to him.

Yes. "Obama’s maternal grandmother’s brother, Charlie Payne, served with the 89th Infantry Division that liberated Ohrdruf, a subcamp of Buchenwald concentration camp." http://embeds.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/05/27/obama-camp-admits-misspeak/

It seems that someone in the Obama campaign — unspecified “aides” — put out the info about Charlie Payne in the 89th Infantry Division. They’d better have the story right this time. I recall seeing on one of the threads that Charlie Payne is alive (he’d be around 84 y.o.) but who knows whether he wants to get dragged into this. Well who would? Well he might want to clear up any uncertainty about his service record but does he appreciate becoming a campaign prop in this way?

Does Charlie Payne like being Obama’s poster boy for PTSD?

Obama could have talked about PTSD without dragging his great-uncle into it, but telling the Auschwitz, oops, he meant Buchenwald tale added so much emotional resonance (and an appeal to Jews)..... did Charlie Payne want to be part of this very public discussion about his post-WWII state of mind? Now the left will try to “blame the bloggers” but it is Obama whose preposterous statement about Auschwitz brought up the subject.

“Aides said Tuesday that his grandmother’s brother, Charlie Payne, helped liberate a Buchenwald sub-camp in April 1945 as part of the 89th Infantry Division.”
