So it appears that his great uncle was in the Navy and that makes his story nose-stretched even futher.
It was my great uncle, not my uncle as I claimed. It was Buchenwald not Auschwitz as I claimed and he was in the Navy not in the Army as I claimed. I also search Army enlistment and induction records and there is no Charles W Payne.
I’ll bet it is the right Charles W. Payne and that he was in the Navy, never got anywhere near a German Extermination Camp, and probably turns out to be a cook on one of the Navy boats.
