When it comes to how they will vote in November, Republican voters say that the type of Supreme Court Justices a candidate would appoint is more important than the War in Iraq. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 44% of Republicans pick the economy as the top voting issue, 30% name judicial appointments, and just 19% pick the War in Iraq.
Among all voters, 52% say the economy is the most important of those three issues, 26% name Iraq, and 17% say judicial appointments are the key. Just 7% of Democrats name judicial appointments as the most important of those issues.
By a 69% to 20% margin, voters believe that judges should interpret the law as it is written. Seventy-four percent (74%) of men favor that approach along with 65% of women.

It’s a close call. Indeed, this is the main reason that McCain has so many conservatives open to supporting him, albeit reluctantly.
Too bad we can’t vote for a Republican.
Ignore the rhetoric and remember who put together the Gang of 14. The appointment of jurists may be critically important but it’s not much of a point of differentiation in this election.

The idea of electing conservative judicial appointments if McCain is the next POTUS truly won’t matter if the next U.S. Senate is truly dominated by a socialistic majority! A socialistic majority in the U.S. Senate will always reject any and all conservative picks for any judicial vacancy!
That's right. McCain will appoint the judges that the Senate lets him appoint.
If McCain is highly popular during a judicial vacancy, than DemocRAT Senators from states he won by large margins will feel pressured to go along with him.

Some good came out of the Gang of 14. Janice Rogers Brown and Pricilla Owen would never have gotten confirmed if it hadn’t been for McCain’s efforts. Also, it made DemocRATS more hesitant to use the filibuster.
This is something that McCain needs to take into account.

I believe the next President will wind up appointing atleast 2 new Supreme Court Justices and for that reason, McCain is the better choice over Clinton or Obama. Obama’s wife is pro-partial birth abortion - can you imagine the kind of Judges Obama would appoint with the approval of a liberal Senate behind him? I’m praying for retirements of those over 70 in the Senate (and most of them are democrats)...
McCain voted YES on Alito and Roberts. Obama voted NO on both. That’s the end of the story.

The fact that McCain has mumbled something about appointing SCOTUS judges in the mold of Alito and Roberts is the ONLY reason I may vote for him.
He stinks to high heaven on most of the other issues, but on this issue he smells a little better than Obama and Clinton.
Here it is. But my point has noting to do with ALITO or even the article itself, but rather that McCain is one of 7 Reps, part of the gang-of-14. Period. That alone should be pointed out constantly.
If people want to vote for MaCain fine, but they should be REMINDED of who this guy is and he has done the Republicans.
