A fight between rival groups of black and Latino students at Locke High School quickly escalated into a campus-wide melee Friday, with as many as 600 students brawling until police restored calm with billy clubs.
The troubled campus in South Los Angeles was locked down after the fight broke out at 12:55 p.m., as students returned from lunch to their fifth-period classes. Overwhelmed school officials called Los Angeles police for help, but students and faculty said it took about half an hour before dozens of officers, many in riot gear, restored order.
"The kids were crazy, running from place to place, jumping on other kids," said Reggie Smith, the school's band director, who said he ran to pull his students from the melee. "Some of my kids were crying because they were walking to class with friends and they got jumped."
Los Angeles Unified School District police said that there are only two officers assigned to Locke but that the school police force brought in about 60 officers after receiving word of the brawl. The Los Angeles Police Department also dispatched more than a dozen patrol cars and about 50 officers.snip

It is always possible.It is a matter of priorities. We homeschooled 3 at a time when both of us worked and neither of us made much at all. It was a pain in the butt and no one got fat. We actually skimped on food occasionally. But we did the job and the results are most satisfying. It helps if you have no TV in the house.
We need to apply some innovative liberal solutions to this problem. But it might take some money.
1. Midnight basketball
2. Make condoms available on request
3. reduce classroom size
4. retrain teachers
5. team sensitivity teaching
6. more diversity training
7. expand school lunch subsidies
Hispanics have no white guilt. They don’t like blacks and are quite willing to say so and then act on it.
Historically, thru the 50s race riots consisted primarily of whites attacking blacks. From the 60s through the 90s they consisted of blacks attacking whites and Asians.
We may be headed back towards an era of blacks as the recipients, only with Hispanics as the aggressors.
The hilarious aspect of this is that liberals are convinced that all “people of color” are inherently allied against evil “people of pallor.” In reality, Hispanics and most other minorities dislike blacks much more than they hate whites.
Another fun factor is watching liberals trying to ignore Hispanic vs. black conflict, as it conflicts so greatly with their theories. CA authorities and the LAPD are desperately trying to pretend that a general attack on blacks by latino gangs is not in progress in that city.
Exactly. How can there be a racial conflict, absent evil white men?
Must be a legacy of slavery and colonialism......or something.

I pay $9000 a year in property taxes on a $360,000 house in Corpus Christi. I am pretty ticked about it. I refuse to pay that money and get nothing in return for it. Our kids go to public school and we take an active part in it. I went to public school and I graduated from Annapolis with merit. The public schools will not get better if smart people like us let the teachers get away with making the system a jobs program.
My money is on the Mexicans! If things go against them, they can call in the Mexican Army. I doubt the Feds would even respond when their Army comes in.
I don't know where you're living now but if you think your state is immune you're kidding yourself.
This is an epidemic and it's spreading throughout the country!

Oh hell no! THAT is their school? There is no way when hell freezes over that I would send my kid there!!!
This is a perfect example that “our diversity is our strength” is a lie, and a dangerous one at that. For many decades, this nation knew otherwise, if a nation can “know” anything. There are so few things that bind us to each other anymore.

Yeah they got rid of the racists and trouble makers years ago. It's now a paradise.
With no evil whites there, why isn't it a wonderful paradise where everyone holds hands, respects each other, and is friends?
They would instantly drop that North vs. South Mexican gang mentality the moment an opportunity arose to attack blacks.
If prison culture is any indicator, Hispanics are much more organized in group violence than blacks.

One way around this is “escorted classes”, in which entire classrooms of students are given the same classes for that year, then class times are staggered at 5 minute intervals.
Students arrive at a lockdown campus, and each group assembles at a different entrance, where a teacher is waiting. The students have a 10 minute window in which to assemble. Then the teacher escorts them to their first class.
It sounds very complicated, but it is less so if teachers are given timed pagers.
As an example, from 7:20am to 7:30am, four groups of students assemble at four entrances. Any students not of that group are not permitted on school grounds. At 7:30, each of the four groups are taken to the class taught by that teacher, for an hour. Then the 7:30am-7:40am four groups start to assemble at the entrances.
One hour later, the 7:20-7:30 classes are escorted by their 1st period classes to their 2nd period class, where their new teacher is waiting. The 1st period teachers then return to their classroom, to await the arrival of their next class.
It seems terribly complicated, but in practice it can be done efficiently. And while it is much like prison, in the long run, it can help keep students out of prison.
I can’t imagine sending my child into this everyday.

Reading some Locke at Locke high school might also be useful.
The public schools will not get better unless there is substantial competition to them. The smart kids having alternative arrangements in sufficient numbers becomes competition. Then the public schools will improve. In the meantime it is unconscionable for intelligent parents to inflict public school on their children and on themselves. In public school you get little or no actual history. the math is questionable and depends on educational fad. English is simply not taught though a lot of social programming goes under the title.Your child may be very bright and get a lot on his own but much of that is in spite of the system and he would get so much more in an actually educational environment. He is being cheated in public school.
Based on that, I’d expect hispanics to totally come out on top in places like Cali, but what about the SE, where hispanics will be the “second minority” for a few more decades? I’d call that an unstable formula.

Three way splits are inherently unstable. THink Bosnia, with the Croats, Muslims and Serbs.

“Recently, in Jordan Downs, a Grape Street clique rebuffed by a 14-year-old boy who refused to join gang-raped his 12-year-old sister, taped the attack, and showed the video to the boy. The boy gave in and joined. Older gang members and veteran police say the neighborhoods are codeless and anarchic. “The hood is lost because we ain’t got no guidance right now,” a hardcore Bounty Hunter Blood told me. “It’s just us young gangsters.”
The differences between black and Latino gangs are stark. And the black gang members I spoke with readily admit that the difference is fatal. Damien Hartfield, the former Bounty Hunter, explained, “Blacks do what they want. When Latinos go gangbanging they have a solid plan. Blacks don’t go to war like that. It’s spontaneous. Something just happens. Latinos make a call, make a plan. They have a structure.”
LAPD Chief Bratton admits he is bewildered by how anarchic L.A.’s black gangs have become.
“African-American violence is totally out of proportion to their numbers,” he said. “With Latinos, there is so much more family structure, while it’s not as if blacks rally around the African-American community just because they are black. They associate more with their gang colors than they do with their own color as African-Americans. It’s almost as if they lost identities as African-Americans.”
Watts and neighboring Compton, historically and famously black neighborhoods, are already roughly 70 percent Hispanic. Hispanic gangs know they don’t need to wage war against black gangs. They are happy to wait it out as black gangs sabotage themselves. Gangbangers in Watts tell me they know they can’t keep up. And they know their fate.
“Ten years from now gangs from all other races besides Hispanic are going to be pushed out of everywhere,” Andre says. “
Memphis proper is around 65% black with Latinos only around 3-4%...the rest white more or less
Nashville metro is around 8% black, 15% latino and the rest White
Nashville proper is 25% black
