Air Canada will have to wait at least two years longer than originally expected to take delivery of its first 787 Dreamliner, the airline revealed on Thursday.
The Boeing Co. has told Air Canada that it will deliver the first of the 37 aircraft it has on order at least 24 to 30 months later than the carrier had previously expected, at the earliest in January 2012.
Air Canada will be seeking compensation from Boeing for the delays, Montie Brewer, Air Canada chief executive, told a conference call on Thursday.
In April, Boeing announced that the first deliveries of the aircraft were being rolled back to the third quarter of 2009, some 15 months later than originally planned.
Other airlines, including Japan's All Nippon Airways and Australia's Qantas Airways, have also said they will seek compensation for the delivery delays.
Anyone know the reason for the delivery delays? The article doesn’t mention it.
BUSH'S FAULT!
Welcome to realities of GLOBAL MANUFACTURING.
100-1 that some component manufactured in China or Japan failed to pass critical tests. Just a hunch!
From what I read and hear, if the price of oil keeps going stratospheric the best part of the airline business to be involved with is aircraft storage. They gonna be parking a bunch of these fuel hogs. Hmmm, now where can I buy a large airport cheap, real cheap???? LOL
I believe it has something to do with Boeing believing that outsourcing most of the planes construction to external companies was an awesome idea while at the same time having an overly agressive delivery schedule.
