The Case For Hillary
vanity | May 7, 2008 | Flashlight

Some thoughts, which should be obvious to most, to help keep the battle going:

1. The "most pledged delegates" or "highest popular vote" arguments are meaningless. The only important fact is that Obama (so far) has not won enough delegates for a first-ballot victory. What that means is that he has failed (so far) to win the nomination. I know everyone knows this, but Obama-backers and media types keep acting like there's some kind of moral "obligation" to give it to the guy in the lead.

I can assure them that Republicans would feel no obligation whatsoever to give the nomination to McCain if he got to the convention still short of the magic number to win.

2. Nobody is saying the real reason Obama won so big yesterday despite having such a bad month - it was his decision to avoid debates. Obama learned that he can't face the tough questions, so he's wisely electing to run out the clock and avoid them. This strategy obviously will not work for long in the general election.

3. Much of Obama's delegate and vote lead is coming from his getting 90% of the African-American vote. Any Democrat can expect to get that in the general election. The only smart way to choose a nominee is is performance in the battleground states.

4. Obama is a liberal - an inexperienced liberal who runs like a liberal. Doesn't anyone remember 1972? Hillary is a liberal, but knows enough to run as a centrist.

Anyway, my own motives are to keep this fight going as long as possible.

IIRC, if the Demos had winner take all voting, Hillary would have won.

If Hillary is such a superior candidate, then why has Hillary not been able to close the deal in this campaign? Why has your girl, with all the advantages coming in, been upstaged by a rookie senator?

What difference does it make how Republicans run their primaries? Aren’t Republicans evil? It’s good Democrats who want to let every vote count, and it’s Democrats with their “superior” intellect and “values” who decided on proportional representation of delegates at their convention. Democrats themselves decided to run their nomination process this way. What is his point?????

how can you say obama avoided debates?

“Debate without moderator? Obama declines
‘I’m not ducking. We’ve had 21 debates’ already, he says of Clinton idea.”

She's not such a great candidate. Obama got the Dems much more excited. The general election is a different story (like McGovern).

Also, please don't call her "my girl." I really wouldn't mind if she disappeared into the sunset forever.

Obabma’s inability to close the deal is a major political failure, one noted by a lot of Dems.

Looking at this from the financial side....Hillary had to loan her campaign more money this month. However now that the major primaries are over...how much money will she need to make it to Colorado. Not much I would think. So where is the pressure for her to drop out at this point I think the real test was whether she could make it this far, she has... so why in the world would she quit now?

Very true, which is why the race is still going on. The sd's could end this any time if they wanted to.

Sorry, it sounded as it you were supporting her. I realize you’re just stating some facts that lots of people aren’t thinking about.

The Democrats are, by preference, parliamentarians. Their party is built that way and it is designed for an elite technocrat upper caste to be able to control disparate groups or tribes without having to homogenize them, or as others might see it, Americanize them. The Democrat elite stays in control by keeping the base as separate groups that depend on the elite for benefits taken from other groups.

OK Hillary, put on your best Tom “Risky Business” Cruise smile, put your Foster Grant Wayfares on and say: “Looks Like 2012!”

I understand the Clintons have canceled all their appearances scheduled over the next few days. For other candidates that sort of action has been a short prelude to announcing the end of their campaigns. That would be a shock to me. Unless the Clintons have figured out another angle related to 2012 or some sort of independent run it is hard to believe that they would drop out at any stage short of the final nomination.

Hill's hubby ran to the center in the general, too.

I wonder if Osama Obama is in Hill's FBI files.

I’ll take a wild a** guess. Because the rookie is young and Black.

Obama is going to win the most super delegates and the nomination but will be completely blown out by the weakest Republican candidate in a long time. Because of this the Democrats will do away with the super delegates for 2012. Thats my take on it.

I would rather see either Obama or McCain win than to see Adolph Hitler or Joseph Stalin win. I cannot say the same of Hillary Clinton. If the only names on the ballot were Ahmadinejad and Clinton, I would still vote against her.

The number one case for Hilary is there are no rules in the Democrat Party.

I kind of wish we would have had a fight in the Republican primary. I think conservatism is worth fighting for. In the Democrat Party they are just fighting for individual power.
