Retire the Presidents
The New York Sun ^ | 4/28/2008 | Ryan Cole

Posted on 04/28/2008 6:38:29 PM PDT by Utah Girl

Since being ejected from the Oval Office in 1980, Jimmy Carter has spent his days conducting rogue diplomacy in global hot spots, dashing from the embrace of one dictator to another and generally making life miserable for sitting American presidents.

For this, Mr. Carter is often called our greatest ex-president.

Accordingly, his latest round of unauthorized diplomacy with Hamas will surely only enhance his post-presidential resume.

But truth be told, no amount of hobnobbing with terrorists or international do-goodery at the expense of American interests will ever erase Mr. Carter's miserable legacy as president.

From his disastrous handling of both the Iran hostage and OPEC-generated oil crises, to agitated swamp rabbits in Plains, Ga., and cardigan sweaters in the Oval Office, his term was a malaise-inducing era that saw the gradual decline of American power and influence and the continued post-Watergate marginalization of the presidency.

Ironic how it is only the Democrat presidents that should be retired. The Republican ones know how to bow out gracefully...

What a crock. I've never heard him called anything but a total screw up and the absolutely worst president we have ever had, in office and out.

The Democrat ex-presidents (since LBJ, anyway) all think they should be granted a lifetime do-over. Lyndon didn't live long enough to get his. Carter and Sink Boy are luckier.

Carter was called the Greatest ex-President when he was building houses for the poor. The Nobel Prize was a peevish Nordic snub to Bush.

The only reason I believe Carter is not our worst president is because I think Clinton was worse. I suggest Jim Robinson put this one to a vote and see how Freepers as a whole decide on this!

He gave away the Panama Canal, screwed our 1980 Olympic athletes by boycotting the Soviet games, didn’t do didly to rescue our hotages from Iran and should be in an old folks home for the insane! Oh yeah, and interest rates were 17%...man, how short are American memories!@ Even Clinton wasn’t as bad as this old fool...

His failures as President are eclipsed by his failures as ex-President. There are no words to describe what a despicable excuse for a human being he is.

Carter was an incompetent boob but Clinton was a crook who took the rule of law and turned it into toilet paper, which I believe did much more damage to our republic. But your dissent makes my other point about why a poll of Freepers is needed here.

President Bush should order Carter's passport revoked. He should tell him that he will be prosecuted under the Logan Act if he persists in his rogue diplomacy.

If Carter leaves the country, he will likely be surprised that without a valid passport, he cannot reenter the country. Let him sleep in Yasser Arafag's old office.

I see a big difference between Jimmah and Wild Bill. Wild Bill would party with you, make sure you had girls, food and booze. Take you back to the hotel party some more. When you wake up your wallet, car keys and home address are gone and you have lost you innocence in a certain body orifice. However, you had such a good time you just smile in admiration and say damn Bill you are good.

Cater would lecture you about your evil ways. Embrace your sick wife beating father and tell your mother she was all wrong and did not treat your father correctly - it is her fault she got beat.

I'm more inclined to think of him as a whiney, petulant asshat ..

Jimmah, there was a reason for this ..

It's because you are and always will be an abject failure.

I can’t say I’ve read anyone who says Jimmah was our greatest president. What MSM reporter said this ?

Even Clinton wasn’t as bad as this old fool...

The nuclear weapon technology Clinton sold to China makes him every bit as bad as Carter.

The reason Carter catches more flak is because of the Hostage Crisis and the economy during his term (21% interest rates and 12% inflation.)

They were both horrible, but for different reasons; Carter was corrupt ideologically, while Clinton was a classic narcissist.

The only reason there is a debate between Carter and Clinton for the title of “Worst” is because Carter only had 4 years to wreak his destruction.

Gas lines, stabbing the Shah in the back (and setting Islamic jihad on its course), giving away the Panama canal, hostage crisis, 21% interest on mortgages, no outside Christmas lights, offices at 65 degrees, botched rescue mission, pardoning the draft-dodgers in Canada, beef shortages (remember those soy/beef hamburger mixtures?), Bert Lance, Billy Carter hobnobbing with Ghadaffi, Miss Lillian pontificating, Amy giving advice, no alcohol served at State dinners, gutting the military, destroying the CIA, high taxes, and after all of this, he gave a talk from the Oval Office in his ubiquitous sweater telling us that our bad attitude was all our fault!!!

The term “Misery Index” was coined during the Carter years, which were just like dog years (each one seemed like seven).

All I can remember about Jimmah is freezing during the winter because he mandated that public buildings have their thermostats set to 65 degrees or less. Carter is an evil small petty man.

Oh yeah, and interest rates were 17%

Actually 22% and besides he pardoned all the draft dodgers.
