US superdelegates on the spot
Herald Sun ^ | 24 April 2008

HILLARY Clinton, buoyed by her win in the Pennsylvania primary, has piled pressure on top Democratic Party officials who hold the key to her gripping White House feud with Barack Obama.

The "superdelegates" who can vote how they like at the party's August convention came under a glaring spotlight after Senator Clinton defied Senator Obama's latest bid to bundle her out of the contest with a 10-point triumph in yesterday's vote.

Though Senator Clinton trails Senator Obama by every metric in the race, the result gave the former first lady more time to raise doubts among party members that her rival cannot win the general election in November against Republican John McCain.

"The delegates, all of them, have to make up their minds as to who is the stronger candidate. I believe in the last month I've demonstrated a real strength," the New York senator told NBC news today.

"At the end of the day, people have to decide who they think would be not only the best president, which is the most important question, but who would be the better candidate against Senator McCain," Senator Clinton said.

The nearly 800 superdelegates, members of Congress, governors, and other party luminaries, are now crucial, because it is all but impossible for either candidate to reach the threshold of 2025 pledged delegates needed for victory.

I can see the September headline:

WHITE WOMAN STEALS NOMINATION FROM BLACK MAN!
Scores Injured as Rioting Spreads in Major Cities

Operation Chaos has the Democrats in a real pickle. They are responsible for turning Melanin into Teflon, and now they are stuck with Obama as their nominee. But it's only fair, since early-primary Dem crossovers saddled the GOP with McCain.

For some reason, the phrase "US Superdelegates" is making me crack up.

Then I start thinking about some of the people who actually ARE "US Superdelegates" and I crack up some more.

Though Senator Clinton trails Senator Obama by every metric in the race

Except for the popular vote, the number of electoral votes in states won, and the number of FBI files of the US Superdelegates.

"At the end of the day, people have to decide who they think would be not only the best president, which is the most important question, but who would be the better candidate against Senator McCain could have them killed without feeling the slightest bit of remorse," Senator Clinton said.

I mentioned this to my son and he didn’t get it (too young). I’ve tagged some of the tamer videos of the Rodney King riots for him to see. As much as I’d like to see it happen politically, I really hope it doesn’t because it will be chaos.

The main reason the superdelegates won’t declare is because they enjoy being the center of attention. These self-important gasbags know they’ll return to irrelevance as soon as they declare. They also know that if this goes to a convention floor battle, they stand to milk some mighty huge promises out of a possible future president in exchange for support.

I really hope it doesn’t [happen] because it will be chaos.

And that is precisely why the superdelegates can't take the nomination away from Obama. They are stuck with him. Chaos, indeed!

Excellent point. However, I wonder if they truly care for their nation that much? I would hope so. Looking at that map of Pennsylvania with only the major cities going for Barack, I think it might be similar if he goes against McCain. I think a lot of the gun-toting, Bible reading rural democrats would go for McCain (another liberal) before voting for a Communist.

Do you know if the super delegates from Florida and Michigan get to participate in the convention even if the elected delegates don't?

Operation Chaos’ time is passed and its job is done.

Further prolonging of it RUNS TREMENDOUS RISK.

She is posturing now 100% as a centrist, and centrists win Independent Moderates. Obama is not positioned in that way at all and McCain’s image as “independent minded maverick” gives him a huge advantage with them.

Make no mistake about it, it is independent moderates that win elections.

She Must Be Stopped Now. Do whatever you can to get Obama an big win in North Carolina and a win in Indiana. He MUST win more delegates to snuff her out and she MUST be snuffed out before the convention. There is NO VALUE IN RISKING HER MANEUVERS AT THE CONVENTION. Smugly sitting back and saying you want to be entertained by a fight is selfish. They have been bled all we can safely bleed them. It’s time to erase her now because she, as a pretend centrist, is the far greater threat.

“Though Senator Clinton trails Senator Obama by every metric in the race...”

ERROR... ERROR...

Hitlery now has overtaken SnObama in popular votes cast, quite arguably the most important metric.

Totally disagree. Obama must be stopped. Now.

The election should be held between two candidates who it is possible to imagine being Commander in Chief. However poor the selection is, the worst should be eliminated first and that is, without doubt, Obama.

This isn’t the NCAA Tourney where we’re hoping for a good matchup. We’d like to face their weakest candidate. And, I’d like to put a stake through the heart of some really evil folks.

I’m not talking about a good matchup. I’m talking about eliminating the most dangerous element first.

I agree, Obama has made H look like a moderate. He can’t win in November.

From what I gather the superDs will be seated regardless in @ least half-stength. I do believe the issue will not be addressed until the credentials committee meets in June. If BHO's majority on that committee insists they are not seated in full then it goes to the convention floor in late August. Same goes for the pledged delegates from those two states.

That said, the credentials committee consists of 10% DNC picks & 90% proportionally divided to each candidate's % of approved delegates for the other 48+ states. Therefore I don't think DNC insiders will exclude other DNC insiders (superDs).
