Another ethnic slur has reared its ugly head from the golf world, and once again, it's from a golf announcer. Bobby Clampett, a former pro and CBS announcer, referred to Chinese golfer Wen-Chong Liang as "the Chinaman," on the air on Friday.
Clampett issued an apology, albeit a rather weak one, on the air: "It has been a privilege to be here with you the last two days describing action of the players. In describing the Asian player Wen-Chong Liang if I offended anybody please accept my sincere apolgies."
These are sensitive times in the golf world. Golf is trying hard to join the 21st Century and be part of he the diverse world, but there are times the old world, too often the Old South, shows up at the microphone. The Golf Channel's Kelly Tilghman was suspended two weeks in January for saying that the Tour's young players who want to challenge Tiger Woods should "lynch him in a back alley."
Chinaman is an ethnic slur?
I’m a bit confused. Chinaman is offensive? Is it not the same as saying the Irishman or Englishman?
Or was there something else to what the guy said?

What in the world? I suppose “Chinaman” is a bit out of date as a term, but would it still have been a “slur” if he’d said “Chinese man”?
The media’s syrupy and continual adulation of Woods becomes very tiresome over the course of 18 holes. Often when a white player maked a poor shot a scathing remark such as “Raggedy!” issued forth from the announcer.
Let Woods slice one or miss a perfectly gainable putt, and 90% of the time, excuses are offered or if it just becomes necessary to meaningfully criticize his playing it’s done quickly, with few barely audible words and then dropped.
Old world and Old South, eh? Nope, no bias there.
Should he have said “the golfer of Chinese origin” instead?
But, the media refuse to excoriate any black who spews racial slurs against whites because:
a. White’s deserve it’, and/or
b. Some blacks are discendants of slaves.

When Liang is speaking with other Chinese, I guarantee he refers to whites as “Lao Wai” - a slightly nicer version of “Gueilo”, the Cantonese term for foreign devil.
“Lao Wai” means “Old Foreigner”, and is used even in America - by Chinese immigrants here, to describe whites.
Daily. I guarantee it.

I recently referred to someone as “oriental” and was told that was a racial slur also. I can’t keep up. I did not intend to slur the person- simply to describe him. Is that even possible anymore? It was explained to me that “Asian” is now the PC term ..
Nah, Chinaman was always meant as a slur. I remember people referring to a “Chinaman’s chance in Hell”

It will keep getting worse, as long as we are cowed into apologizing at every turn, every time someone CHOOSES to be offended.
America is dissolving. In PC, in “free trade”. In dumbed down schools run by leftwing nutjobs.
In “zero tolerance”.
