ABC Can't Find Military McCain Supporter in Iraq
Jeff Gannon - A Voice of the New Media ^ | 4/8/08 | Jeff Gannon

Posted on 04/08/2008 6:25:31 AM PDT by ConservativeMajority

Members of the military are prohibited from engaging in political activity, but ABC News convinced a few soldiers in Iraq to go before the cameras to discuss their choices for president. It is well known that the troops generally support Republicans because of their pro-military credentials, which is the reason Al Gore tried to have ballots from overseas military bases disqualified during the 2000 recount. However, Martha Raddatz could not find a single soldier who supported Sen. John McCain, a Vietnam War veteran for Commander in Chief. Most of those Raddatz interviewed backed Sen. Barack Obama with one favoring Sen. Hillary Clinton and a few undecideds.

Equally revealing was the that issues most inportant to the soldiers were education, the economy, the environment and fear of war with Iran. None of those interviewed mentioned completing the mission or national security.

ABC News is suggesting that the military is against the war in Iraq and back the most antiwar candidate seeking the nomination. It is likely that when patriots saw the liberal Raddatz and her camera crew coming, they went in the opposite direction.

The headline says it all: "Surprising Political Endorsements By U.S. Troops". It is not a surprise that ABC News would produce such a biased piece and try to pass it off as news. Raddatz should get a Pulitizer Prize for investigative reporting since she probably really had to talk to alot of soldiers to find that many Obama supporters.

I watched this segment last night and it was absolutely disgusting. The DBM are so disingenuous and transparent in their bias that it makes one want to upchuck.

Liberal media ping!!!

Those a55hats couldn’t report a straight story if their lives depended on it.

One of the scariest and most difficult things to comprehend on the planet is a military liberal...

ruefully,

I saw this segment last night and it was just trash journalism at its best. Soldiers are not suppose to be politically active, BUT ABN managed to find two Obama and one clinton supporter to interview, but just mananged to “mention” that there were a few McCain supporters around also.

Want to bet the McCain supporters were the ones that KNEW it was wrong for a soldier to go on national TV supporting a political candidate and told ABC to go fly a kite?

Sicko probably went to a makeshift morge.

“See no one is saying they like McCain.”

Foxnews was the friendliest news organization to the military during the seizing of Baghdad.

"It is not a surprise that ABC News would produce such a biased piece and try to pass it off as news."

I think it is far more likely that ABC deliberatly excluded McCain supporters. And Martha Radish gives me an acute rectal pain. Cannot stand the woman.

Same crap happended in ‘04. They amazingly found no Bush supporters, only those for Kerry.

The 74% who vote conservative must hve called in sick the day Martha was slopping for a story.

I admit I read the article pretty quickly, but do recall that the folks interviewed (as reported in print) all seemed to PFCs and similar.

Not unusual for the grunts to have ‘simple minds’. ;-)

I also noticed (IIRC) she did not report ANY interviews with ANY Marines, any NCOs, or any butter bars and up.

I am ready to be corrected and reprimanded by FReepers who read more carefully.

Remembering how homesick I was, I might have told a reporter “McGovern”. Of course I voted for Nixon - my brain wasn’t that far gone.

That'd be me, if I was there.

Whenever I see a "news" camera, I go the other way.

Not that Raddick isn’t a socialist hack (she is) and that this isn’t agenda reporting at its finest (it is) but the military has been trending away from the Republicans in recent years, at least in declared affiliation. The last Military Times poll found that only 46% of military members considered themselves Republican. More military members than ever consider themselves independent.

From armytimes.com:

“While Bush fared well overall, his political party didn’t. In the three previous polls, nearly 60 percent of the respondents identified themselves as Republicans, which is about double the population as a whole. But in this year’s poll, only 46 percent of the military respondents said they were Republicans. However, there was not a big gain in those identifying themselves as Democrats — a figure that consistently hovers around 16 percent. The big gain came among people who said they were independents.

Similarly, when asked to describe their political views on a scale from very conservative to very liberal, there was a slight shift from the conservative end of the spectrum to the middle or moderate range. Liberals within the military are still a rare breed, with less than 10 percent of respondents describing themselves that way.”
