The landscaping is even more breath-taking than the skyscraper. /sarc.

No question, but at least these dollars aren’t going
directly to Cutthroat Cultists for hostile field ops.

Cool. Yes this is where some of our oil money goes, but I’d rather Dubai invest in stuff like this than, say, terrorism.
On the downside though, this is a major target for Iran....

The oil revenues have to go someplace. Too bad the building will outlive the oil by only a few years. They will be back to tents and camels eventually.

This is just ego boobusting. It was long ago proven that once a building goes much beyond 60 floors, it becomes very uneconomical to run. With the Arab petro dollars flowing, the last thing they have to be concerned about is efficiency.

I sure hope some loony American religious group like Praise The Lord Club aided by the outlaw government of Dick Cheney and George W Bush doesnt send people to Dubai dressed as normal Arabians and fly fully loaded passenger planes into that building in a desparate suicidal attempt to show the Mid East that it is evil and corrupt in the eyes of Jesus Christ.

Agree. As well, they aren’t going to buy our Port Facilities or our Investment Banks either. I like the fact of them being planted in the middle of a dessert which, after all is said and done, will be a dessert after the energy mania recedes.

I had thought this was a rather progressive Islamic nation until recently. I need to look into it further, but it sounds like there may be some pretty unsavory things going on in that nation.

Interesting, it would take almost 1200PSI to pump water to the top floor without using a relay pumping station.

I gotta admit, that’s pretty cool!

. . . and we thought the Freedom Tower was going to be tall . . . It is always fun to preview cool architectural achievements around the world! Weve covered everything from the worlds smallest apartment to the coolest architectural projects in the middle east (includes the then proposed-tallest building in the world) to the worlds largest building (proposed in Moscow - slated to dwarf the Pentagon). Once again, weve learned of a building that is slated to make the competition cry tears of inadequacy . . . The Daily Mail reported today that Saudi Prince al-Walid bin Talal, one of the richest men on Earth, has unveiled plans to build a tower that will be 1 mile tall (5,280 feet) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia - dubbed the Mile-High Tower.
