In this world of trans oceanic travel in hours, this issue is really self limiting and isolated. The attention it gets is not proportionate to it's signifigance to others.

There are many things scriptures of all types forbid, with or without laws. Last year we were invited to a church ceremony celebrating a divorce. The pastor felt it was important to the children for the couple divorcing to celebrate their good qualities before separating for the children's sake. WTF? I would of course not attend.

Of all the ills society is suffering regarding family and marriage, I say this doesn't have a rat's arss to do with the world's woes.

Thanks. This photo is actually quite a phenomenon. When the photographer took this picture, these two guys probably had no idea they were about to become famous (perhaps infamous is a better term) worldwide. One poster at the site you referenced wrote, "The visage of the two men is suspicious and defensive"- it looks like they were right to think that way.

I wonder how the daughter would feel if her father/husband were to continue the trend with THEIR daughter.

This whole thing is nauseating. I need to strap on a barf-bag.

Such attractions are not normal and in this case most likely due to the absolute failure of traditional marriage norms for each of these two. Their resulting interest in each other is due to the horrible experiences the mates of their primary marriages proved to be. I'd say they both have coping issues and took refuge in each other's company. As to why there had to be a sexual component to it is not appropriate, but not entirely unexpected to those with an inability to think before they act.

Why seek from others that which you can do for yourself? Thank you Jocelyn Elders. Here's a couple who could have used your goofy wisdom.

I can't remember their names so Goggle is helpless.

Names aren't necessary.

Mrs Deaves said soon after reuniting with her father she began to see him as a man first and her father second.

“I was looking at him, sort of going, oh, he’s not too bad,” she said.

“Like you might look at a man across the bar at a nightclub.”

Settled by His Honour, Judge Millsteed 20/3/08

IN THE DISTRICT COURT

CRIMINAL JURISDICTION

MOUNT GAMBIER

THURSDAY, 20 MARCH 2008 AT 9.35 A.M.

BEFORE HIS HONOUR JUDGE MILLSTEED

NO.DCCRM-08-125

R v JOHN EARNEST DEAVES AND JENNIFER ANNE DEAVES

HIS HONOUR IN SENTENCING SAID:

John Earnest Deaves and Jennifer Anne Deaves, you are related as father and daughter. You are aged 61 years and 39 years respectively.

Each of you has pleaded guilty to two counts of performing an act of incest with the other. The charges are representative of a course of conduct that spanned seven years. Your relationship produced two children. The first child was born in 2001 but died a few days after birth due to a congenital heart disease. The second child was born in May last year.

The first count of incest is based on the act of sexual intercourse that resulted in the conception of the first child. The second count is based on the act of sexual intercourse that resulted in the conception of the second child.

Mr Deaves, you married Ms Deaves’ mother approximately 40 years ago. She divorced you when you were serving a sentence of imprisonment for armed robbery. At the time, Ms Deaves was about three or four years of age. Ms Deaves’ mother did not encourage subsequent contact between you. As a result, you had little contact until about 2000. By that time, you, Mr Deaves, were living with your child and wife, at Yongala, in South Australia, and you, Ms Deaves, were living with your former husband and two children in Sydney, New South Wales. Those children are now aged 9 and 14.

Apparently both marriages were strained. You, Ms Deaves, decided to go and stay with Mr Deaves for a short while to give you an opportunity to assess the future of your marriage. During the stay, which lasted for about three weeks, the two of you became attracted to one another. However, no physical relationships developed until later that year, when the two of you took Mr Deaves’ children on a trip to Dubbo. Following that trip, the two of you ended your marriages and commenced living with one another.

Each of you say that the other has provided care and affection that was missing in your marriage. Mr Deaves also provided your children, Ms Deaves, with a loving father figure that your former husband failed to provide. You also say that although you are father and daughter, that you were virtually strangers when your relationship commenced and that the relationship was one based on mutual love and respect.

Ms Deaves, you have also assisted to care for Mr Deaves. He has been in receipt of a disability pension since 1996 due to a back ailment and also currently suffers from diabetes, depression, mild heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Jenny went on to marry husband Michael* and have two children, Samantha, now 15, and Alexander, 10. John married twice more and had another daughter, who he no longer sees.

“We spent two weeks together and it was then I started to feel attracted to him. I remember thinking he was good-looking, but I was confused. He was 22 years older than me – and he was my father.”

The family went on a trip to the zoo and stayed in a caravan. And, after staying up to chat one night over a few drinks, Jenny climbed into bed with her dad, as her children slept just feet away. “I thought we could innocently share a bed,” insists Jenny. “But when John rolled over to give me a cuddle, I wanted more.”

But, less than a week later, Samantha, then nine, accidentally revealed her mother’s secret, blurting out to Jenny’s mum: “Mummy’s happy now she’s slept with Grandpa.”

Knowing her mum would not be able to keep her secret, Jenny was forced to tell her husband. He was disgusted and refused to see her again. Meanwhile John confessed their incestuous relationship to his shocked wife, Sarah*, 56. Incredibly, she suggested that Jenny came to live with them and share John with her.

“I think she was desperate to save her marriage,” says Jenny. “But I didn’t want to share John, so I refused.”

When both John’s wife and Jenny’s family threatened to call the police and have Jenny’s children taken into care, the couple went on the run.

Within a year, Jenny discovered she was pregnant. But their son, Jackson, tragically died from a heart condition in 2001, four days after his birth. “It wasn’t a genetic problem caused by a father and daughter having a child,” insists Jenny.

Heartbroken, the couple stayed on the run for five years, until Jenny fell pregnant again in 2006.

It is our concern. Just because society has perverted the institution of marriage doesn’t mean that we need to accept the perversion. To the contrary, it is our responsibility to speak up for it and protect it as the institution of God that it is.

She is her sister’s mother. She is her own aunt. Interesting.

After starting a new file on the Family Tree Maker geneology software program and calling the original parents John and Jane, the daughter Doris and the granddaught Mary, this is what the "Kinship Reports" looks like.

*********

Kinship of John Doe

Name ........ Relationship with John Doe

Doe, Doris ..... Daughter
....................... Wife

Doe, John ..... Self
....................... Son-in-law
....................... Father-in-law

Doe, Mary ..... Daughter
....................... Granddaughter
....................... Half sister-in-law

Smith, Jane ..... Wife
....................... Mother-in-law

*********

Kinship of Doris Doe

Name ........ Relationship with Doris Doe

Doe, Doris ..... Self
....................... Wife of the father
....................... Daughter of the husband

Doe, John ....... Father
....................... Husband

Doe, Mary ..... Daughter
....................... Half sister
....................... Granddaughter of the husband

Smith, Jane ..... Mother

*********

Kinship of Mary Doe

Name ........ Relationship with Mary Doe

Doe, Doris ..... Mother
....................... Half sister
....................... Wife of the grandfather

Doe, John ..... Father
....................... Grandfather
....................... Half brother-in-law

Doe, Mary ..... Self
....................... Half aunt
....................... Half niece

Smith, Jane ..... Grandmother
....................... Wife of the father

********

Family Tree Maker also strongly advised me and all the other members of my Doe family that family reunions were not an appropriate place to score.

A South Australian police media spokesman said "the couple is being monitored".

Why are they both not in jail, and the child in foster care? Is incest legal in Australia?!
