All eyes on Murdoch as daughter hosts fundraiser for Obama

The Murdoch clan is used to the rest of the media, politicians and the chattering classes trying to decode their political stance and its implications from their public actions.

The early signals were that Rupert Murdoch favoured Hillary Clinton in the US presidential election. But yesterday Murdoch-watchers were digesting the news that Elisabeth Murdoch, Rupert's 39-year-old daughter, who runs a large TV production company, will host a London fundraiser for Clinton's rival, Barack Obama, this month.

Despite the extensive coverage in the UK media, for high-rolling US expats election fever must seem a long way away.

But in the most high-profile example yet of glitzy fundraising bashes for the US presidential hopefuls spreading across the Atlantic, a string of notable US expats with jobs in media, the arts and finance will gather at the Notting Hill home Murdoch shares with her husband, the PR guru Matthew Freud.

So-called "event chairs" at the fundraising evening on April 28 include Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow, Warner Brothers UK chief Josh Berger and Julia Moffett, the director of strategy for the BBC World Service Trust.

Those who have already donated to the campaign are invited to "top up" their donation to the maximum $2,300 allowed under US law.

Rupert Murdoch's News Corp media empire includes the rightwing Fox News, as well as the New York Post, Twentieth Century Fox, BSkyB, the Wall Street Journal and the News International stable of UK newspapers including the Sun and the Times.

I thought foreign money wasn’t supposed to go to U.S. political campaigns. Silly me.

Yes

Reading the articles. It's a good thing.

Rupert is paying “protection money” - nothing more nothing less. Ditto for Mellon-Scaife in Pennsylvania. They’re afraid that a ‘RAT might win the election, so just in case it happens they’re doing a CYA.

Most “deep-pocket” successful business people donate money to both sides in the hope that they will be left alone.

actually i have better teeth than most Americans, small point mind

as for the article, it’s off the guardian, a very left wing paper, of course the BBC viewer swear by it and take what they say as gospel

but

did anyone notice that it said fox news a right wing channel

ARF

funny how they never refer to the BBC , NBC, MSNBC(far left), CNN, CBS, ABC, NPR, ITV, as left wing channels

I would take what the guardian says with a pinch of salt

I talked to my mother yesterday who still lives in England and she was telling me how the media in England and Europe have not heard anything about oabma’s racism, anything about his racist wife, his racist pastor, hos racist connection, his terrorist connections and friends

He obama is made out in the press well so called press as he is the second coming.
They are trying to defy that if anyone does not vote for Obama then they are raicst, yet ignoring that it is Obama and his voters who are the racists
Lets piut it thisn way OBAMA has not had any negative articles and none of his lies, racism or cluelessness has been mentioned over there

you could add on there, take away second amendment and no guns for honest people only guns for criminals.

soft on crime

another one I would be curious is does he want reperations for blacks, and with him where he is amongst other blacks does he now believe it’;s time to rid the country of racist programmes and get rid of affirmative action,

Murdoch gave to Kerry’s Presidential campaign and Hillary’s Senate campaign.

NewsCorp execs endorsed Kerry in 2004.

Fox News is NOT conservative.

Sorry, meant no offense to the British, my comment was directed toward the Murdocks. All that dough, a little should be used to clean up this broad. Plus a meal or two couldn't hurt.
