Obama's Abortion Extremism
Wash. Post ^ | 4/2/08 | Michael Gerson

Posted on 04/01/2008 10:08:59 PM PDT by pissant

Sen. Robert P. Casey Jr.'s endorsement of Barack Obama last week -- "I believe in this guy like I've never believed in a candidate in my life" -- recalled another dramatic moment in Democratic politics. In the summer of 1992, as Bill Clinton solidified his control over the Democratic Party, Robert P. Casey Sr., the senator's father, was banned from speaking to the Democratic convention for the heresy of being pro-life.

The elder Casey (now deceased) was then the governor of Pennsylvania -- one of the most prominent elected Democrats in the country. He was an economic progressive in the Roosevelt tradition. But his Irish Catholic conscience led him to oppose abortion. So the Clintons chose to humiliate him. It was a sign and a warning of much mean-spirited pettiness to come.

The younger Casey, no doubt, is a sincere fan of Obama. He also must have found it satisfying to help along the cycle of political justice.

But by Casey's father's standard of social justice for the unborn, Obama is badly lacking.

Obama has not made abortion rights the shouted refrain of his campaign, as other Democrats have done. He seems to realize that pro-choice enthusiasm is inconsistent with a reputation for post-partisanship.

There's two side notes appropriate for this thread, one concerning abortion in general, the other concerning another aspect of Obama's extremism.

First, regarding Obama's extremist stance on abortion, this post (<-click) tells how FDR's constitutionally unauthorized New Deal programs arguably led not only to the USSC's unlawful stifling of our religious freedoms, but also to the Court's scandalous legalization of abortion. Note that the post first references two non-abortion cases in order to show Roe v. Wade in a different, troubling perspective.

Next, the following links tell of Constitution "expert" Obama's actual contempt for the Constitution with respect to his extremist, Constitution-ignoring spending proposals.

This article (<-click) tells how Obama is an extremist federal spending proposer in one organization's opinion. Interestingly, this article (<-click) shows that Obama considers himself to be a conservative spender.

Incidentally, this post (<-click), while addressing a tax related thread, tells why big-shot spending proposer Obama is foolishly following in the footsteps of FDR's constitutionally unauthorized federal spending politics.

I sincerely hope that Barack Obama is not, now or ever, “punished with success” in his presidential ambition.

Was this article written before the "punishment of pregnancy" statement?

The article appears in TODAYS WaPo..

The most telling part of the article I read was the following :

These trends reached their logical culmination during a congressional debate on partial-birth abortion in 1999. When Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer was pressed to affirm that she opposed the medical killing of children after birth, she refused to commit, saying that children deserve legal protection only “when you bring your baby home.” It was unclear whether this included the car trip.

Most commie socialists are conservative spenders with their own money (i.e. charitable contributions). It's other peoples money they spend like drunkin’ sailors.

He hasn't had to, yet, because Hillary Clinton is *almost* as pro-killing as he is. He's only hinted, strategically, at the fact that he is even more extreme on this issue than she.

If he's the Democrat nominee, he'll begin to shout.

It can’t be repeated enough that Obama favors letting children die after birth, outside the womb, when the abortion fails. He was the only Illinois senator not to vote to give these children medical care.
