Party Fears Tight Obama-Clinton Finish
AP via SFGate ^ | 3/29/8 | CHARLES BABINGTON, Associated Press Writer

For all their delight in soaring voter registration and strong poll numbers, some Democrats fear the contest between Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton might have a nightmarish end, which could wreck a promising election year.

The chief worry is that Clinton may carry her recent winning streak into Pennsylvania, Indiana, North Carolina and other states, leaving her with unquestioned momentum but fewer pledged delegates than Obama. Party leaders then would face a wrenching choice: Steer the nomination to a fading Obama, even as signs suggested Clinton could be the stronger candidate in November; or go with the surging Clinton and risk infuriating Obama's supporters, especially blacks, the Democratic Party's most loyal base.

Some anxious Democrats want party elders to step in now to generate more "superdelegate" support for Obama, effectively choking off Clinton's hopes before she can bolster them further. But many say that is unlikely, and they pray the final 10 contests will make the ultimate choice fairly obvious, not excruciating.

Barring a complete meltdown by Obama, Clinton has almost no chance of surpassing his number of pledged delegates, even if she scores upset wins in states such as Oregon, which votes May 20. But such victories would encourage her to keep criticizing Obama — her only hope for the nomination — and thus heighten doubts about Obama's ability to defeat Republican Sen. John McCain in the fall.

That scenario troubles many Democrats, especially those who feel Obama's nomination is all but inevitable.

"This is going to give Republicans a chance to try to destroy everything we've been trying to work for for eight years," said Ken Foxworth, a Democratic National Committee member from Minnesota and superdelegate who backs Obama.

Superdelegates are party officials, including members of Congress, who can back any candidate they wish.

And the AssPress certainly can't let THAT happen.

Yeah but popcorn sales have gone through the roof and that’s good for the economy.

Driving up the price of ethanol, however.

I thought I heard this week that Guam has 55 delegates. Is that possible?

Barack Hussein Obama the abstracted racist and Senator H. Rodem Clinton the lying hypocrite, both Socialists and big, big government; I hope they destroy themselves, their party is already destroyed with over 75% of Democratic members of the House, Democratic Socialists of America. Hardly what the Founding Fathers had in mind but a surety if either one is voted in as POTUS

. McCain is the only adult running, pretty much a Federalist, one of the bedrocks of democracy and essential in understanding the Constitution plus John McCain is assuredly proud to be an American.

“strong poll numbers”

For McCain. 11% approval of Congress and Hillobama is tanking.

I think the democrat super delegates will be a thing of the past. The democrats found out that managing the elections has it’s drawbacks.

IMHO super delegates were invented to disenfranchise the illiterate voters they garner from the community. Pure and simple.

Party leaders then would face a wrenching choice

It's called making a decision; which is why the super-delegate status was awarded to these people in the first place.

Sounds like these people are concerned that if Barck Obanma doesn't get the nomination, his supporters will loot and burn across the country. Of course, nobody wants to talk about that, but there should be plenty of video about that from the same era as the Democrat convention in Chicago.

Let's not forget, it's the 40th anniversary of MLK being shot, and Bobby Kennedy as well. Detroit didn't need street lights that summer, because the whole town was in flames that summer.

I was slumming through the radio dial and came across this Ed Stupid show of some sort. They hate Hillery and Bill on the far left. They called them Republicans.

Check that list out! So far I have Nancy Pelosi as a superdelegate from California. She must be real happy to be leaned on by Hillary’s henchmen.

The real problem is this - the superdelagates are able to rescue the party from certain suicide if the primary voters insist on voting for a charlatan like Obama. Yet, if they do override the primary voters, they will then cause a riot to develop. Actually, the best thing for the Democrats would be to get everything on the table on Obama which would certainly show that he is not a winning candidate. Lucky for us, the Democrats are too stupid to want that. They insist on plowing ahead towards a hari kari situation. So, if this current scene continues until the convention, all hell will break loose, as no one, I repeat, no one, will emerge the victor and both will be losers.

Such a scene ought to tickle me pink, but I pity the country if rioting begins, and especially the poor city of Denver.

Lucky for St. Paul that they got the GOP convention instead of the Democratic convention.

“Obama before the election:

“You will be able to absolve yourselves of your guilt for slavery if you elect me. I can make you innocent.”

Obama after he wins (cough, cough) the election:

“Now you have been washed and have become clean. My wife, the First Lady, approves of at least 1/2 of the American people for the first time in her life. So here is what you must do so as not to become backsliders. You may not seriously criticize any of my policies, or you will be in danger of falling back into racism and /or uncle-tomism. My first order of business when I am sworn in will be to sign an Executive Order requiring mandatory sensitivity training classes that my wife is preparing for the other 1/2 of the American people who obviously lack an important understanding resulting in their not choosing me when they had the chance.”
