The Wheels of Pro-Life Change on Abortion Turn Slowly, But Keep the Faith

*One in four teens has a sexually transmitted disease.

*Pro-abortion members of Congress have requested that funding for abstinence education be cut off.

*The National Education Association allowed the Feminist Majority Foundation to host its leadership conference for young women at the NEA facilities. The speaker? Infamous late-term abortionist George Tiller.

*The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists is developing a policy that would require all OB/GYNs to refer patients seeking abortions to abortion clinics—regardless of whether the physician personally opposes abortion or not.

*In Great Britain, the Royal College of Psychiatrists recognizes that abortion can lead to mental illness. They recommend that doctors inform patients of these risks. The same week, the General Medical Council, which governs physicians, said that doctors must separate their personal opinion from their practice. They must let patients know their personal opinion of abortion if they are pro-life and those same physicians must refer for abortions.

*Also in Great Britain, 1,300 women have had five or more abortions. Fifty-four of that number had already had seven or more when they went to have another. Liberal Democrat MP, Phil Willis said the statistics showed that there was “a massive failure in the system.” His recommendation: long-term sterilization.

With news items like these over the last two weeks, it would be easy to be discouraged about the advancement of the right to life both here and abroad. Certainly, we all know that pro-abortion groups and their sympathizers need to have their reality checked but they would rather continue on their merry way denying the facts.

But for the rest of us who are not living in a warped fairy-tale, it’s clear that all of the pro-abortion policies in the world have not fixed any of the problems we face today.

Throwing more condoms at teens and sexually transmitted diseases, ignoring the truth of post-abortion syndrome, introducing young people to abortion as some kind of panacea for whatever ails them, building modern feminism on the crumbling foundation of abortion on demand—all of this is patently ridiculous.

But in the world of the pro-abortion activist or sympathizer: you have to be 100 percent, no compromise.

This means no abstinence education, no counseling about abortion and mental illness and you can't have any reservations about any kind of abortion. Ever. Period. Late-term abortionists like George Tiller are heroes and doctors with a conscience must be made to conform to aging notions of feminism by referring for abortions.

But if we read between the lines, there are bright spots that show we are making headway:

When the Royal College of Psychiatrists can no longer ignore the evidence that abortion—not childbirth—is more likely to hurt a woman emotionally and mentally—we're making headway.

When a liberal member of parliament in Great Britain recommends long-term sterilization as the key to curbing abortion, it smacks of paternalism and serves as a reminder of sterilization programs and eugenics And we're making headway.

When the spokespersons for pro-abortion groups get older and ours get younger and, I should add, far prettier—we're making headway.

When the tired, old sound-bites used repeatedly by those promoting abortion are dusted off and used yet once again—we're making headway.

And as Americans gradually recognize that abortion is no longer some thing that magically makes a woman un-pregnant but rather an overt, intentional act of violence that destroys human life—we're making headway.

Sometimes, the cogs turn slowly but they do turn. In doing so, they change time by advancing it and allowing the past to slip farther behind. Pro-abortion groups are stuck in the past and they seem content to remain there.

Not so with the pro-life movement.

Tempora mutantur, nos et mutamur in illis. The times change and we change with them.

Onward and forward.

I think the one overwhelming mistake by the pro-life movement is th absolutist nature of their effort.

It is politically impossible, at present to ban abortion, however smaller steps at limitation have value as a flanking manuver to the incrimental goal.

I am an absolutist on the issue, but I also think the “hearts and minds” approach plays a part, along with the legal, judicial and other approaches, including the religious. I’ve tried to hit at the gut on the long-term damage in a song I’m pushing - “A Dream A Lot Like Mine”. If you’d like please click http://www.myspace.com/emmettgrayson and give it a listen.

"Hearts and minds" is the key part.

With "hearts and minds" won, then the other falls into place. Without the "hearts and minds" part, the others are merely subversions of democracy.

Obviously, democracy is not necessarily a good thing, which is why we're in a democratic republic, but without making a convincing case to the populace, there won't even be minority support for protections.

And incremental "victories" will always be under threat of reversal if they don't have popular backing. Convincing the populace is essential, and why so many points listed in the article are so encouraging--as it shows that the message is getting through, not just being force-fed by government.

In other words, people are awakening to the barbaric destruction of a little innocent prenatal babies.

What the heck is so hard to understand about this!!! It doesn’t have to end in death!!!

I agree completely. That is why I do what I’m able to reach what “hearts and minds” I can in what ways I can. I happen to be a pretty fair songwriter. I believe in telling the truth with “3 chords and words I can spell”, making it accessible without preaching. Some are doing other things - judicially, legislatively, etc. - but they can all work together and at the same time - each in its own way. Hope you’ll click my link in my earlier post. Give it a listen and tell me what you think. Believe me, it ain’t always easy to play that song in a bar in front of people who might really dislike my view, but can’t argue with the reality of the song. It’s much better received by younger people, by the way, than by people of my own age and generation. That tells me there’s hope for the future.

I think you can win by turning leftist tricks against them.

Common sense regulations.

-parental notification.
-late term abortions require scan documentation
-all pre18 pregnancies must be reported to the police
(DNA evidence must be preserved for potential crimal activity)

and so on...

I’m not so sure about that. Whenever we try to use means such as you describe, the adverse media is fast and furious. One way of using their tricks against them, though, is changing the minds of their children and that can be partially accomplished by way of other types of media. We’re seeing some of that in certain movies and such lately. I don’t see it as the full solution, but only a part of it.

Shamefully, the pro-life people marching outside of abortuaries send their children to government schools. In these government school temples of moral relativism their children are indoctrinated into and preached the religion of the Culture of Death!

Pro-life activists pray for conversion and a change of heart of Americans, but send their children into the government indoctrination camps to be proselytized by NEA priestesses and priests of death.

If the pro-life activists want a conversion then they should recognize that their OWN children are their most important mission field. They should get them OUT of the government schools! Homeschool or send their children to conservative private schools that teach the gospel of life.

Pray for an end to abortion and the conversion of America to a mindset of life!( Salvation) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Isn't it plain what the NEA stands for? Yet,,How many people praying for the conversion of America send their kids to government schools?

Each child sitting in a godless government school seat is another reason for government schools to exist, and is an indirect support of the NEA!

When are those praying for the conversion of America going to finally wake up? When are they going to realize that their most important mission field is their OWN children!? Their next most important mission field is the children of their congregation!

Studies show that children from active Christian homes are highly unlikely to remain active in their faith after graduation from high school. Worse, is that those who do claim to be Christian hold beliefs that are NOT Christian.

So?...Why do those who are praying for an end to abortion think that they will have more success with their children?

The best way to get rid of the NEA and reduce its power is to remove children from the government schools. The goal should be to permanently shut down every godless government school in America.

*The National Education Association allowed the Feminist Majority Foundation to host its leadership conference for young women at the NEA facilities. The speaker? Infamous late-term abortionist George Tiller. ( from the article)

Government teachers ARE the NEA. Government teachers made the NEA what it is! Government teachers write the checks that keep this organization functioning. They are the people who elect its leaders. Parents, school boards, and legislatures are NOT responsible for the NEA! Government teachers are!

The next time you meet a government teacher think ABORTION! No one is holding a gun to the heads of these teachers forcing them to write checks to this organization. Teachers do this WILLINGLY!

*Pro-abortion members of Congress have requested that funding for abstinence education be cut off.

Those praying for an end to abortion, send their kids to swim in this filth every day? Unbelievable!

Sex education is **never** religiously neutral. There are only two options: Teach from a God centered perspective, or teach from an atheistic secular humanist perspective.

*One in four teens has a sexually transmitted disease.

I would be curious to know the STD rate of homeschoolers, and that of those attending solidly Christian private schools

So?,,,If the STD rate of homeschoolers and those privately schooled in Christian schools is less, then it would mean that the STD rate of government schoolers is higher than 1 in 4.

Wow! Is this the wonderful "socialization" ( or should I say "sexualization" that pro-life parents want for their kids? I would hope not! Finally, Christ never used children as missionaries. Being a missionary is hard work that requires a mature and fully developed faith. Using **children** as missionaries in the godless, cesspools that are our government schools, is like fighting a forest fire with water pistol.
