FCC trying to reduce monster talk station KKOB (Albuquerque) to 1000 watts
http://www.770kkob.com ^

The FCC is trying to get KKOB to reduce power permanently from 50,000 Watts. The morning host said the level the FCC wants is a measly 1000 watts.

DON'T LET THE FCC DO THIS!

KKOB is a monster talk station with Michael Savage, Rush and Hannity featured every weekday.

Could one of you alert the NM ping list?

A petition to the FCC is on the KKOB site.

What is the justification the FCC is using for the reduction?

Next they will ask WABC to reduce their power, since they are also at 770Khz and operate at 50,000 watts. Also with Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin and Laura Ingraham.

from 50,000 to 1,000!

In other words, you’d need to live next door to the station...

They CAN’T be serious.

The Fairness Doctrine by attrition...This can’t be legal?

I have a better idea. Why doesn’t the FCC jawbone Mexico to get it to reduce its border stations that blast away day and night. Leave KKOB alone. It is one of the few stations offering a clear signal in the Southwest.

Exactly. I’m going to guess they’re completely trumping radio stations way outside a reasonable distance from the station, essentially monopolizing a chunk of the airwaves. Again, just a guess, but the FCC tends to have good reasons for their decisions.

This would be an outrage, because 1000 watts wouldn’t make it to Santa Fe.

On air, the station said that the ABQ station conflicts at 770 kHz with a station in SEATTLE of all places.

I smell a sneaky, dirty way to implement the Fairness doctrine.

Have the border patrol been listening to Savage while on duty?

As soon as Rush moves to Satellite Radio, A.M. Radio is dead. The old line broadcast AM/FM media is dead. Just take a look at the CCU deal that is now falling through. No one in their right mind would invest in traditional media outlets.

On air, the station said that the ABQ station conflicts at 770 kHz with a station in SEATTLE of all places.

...and the only way to prevent this interference is with a 98% reduction in the power of KKOB? Not 20% or 40% or even 80%, but 98% is needed?

Bullshit.
