Syria has deployed three military divisions along the borders with Lebanon amidst mounting tension in the region, press reports said Sunday.
The leading daily an-Nahar attributed the report to well informed sources, noting that the deployment backs a similar massing of fighters by pro-Syrian Palestinian factions in the Bekaa valley, especially Ahmed Jibril's Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC) in the Qoussayah area.
The development followed Hizbullah's open war declaration against Israel after the Feb. 12 assassination in Damascus of the party's Imad Mughniyeh by a bomb explosion.
Hizbullah is sponsoring a major rally in south Beirut's suburb of Rweis on Monday to commemorate Mughniyeh, labeled commander of the "two victories" in reference to the Liberation of south Lebanon from Israeli occupation in May 2000 and the 34-day war against Israel in the summer of 2006.
Israel has ordered its troops on alert to confront a possible attack by Hizbullah operatives when the party marks Mughniyeh's memorial rally on Monday, 40 days after his assassination.
The clock is ticking...tensions rising more by the day...
Israel has only a few more months to either $#^t or get off the pot because if an administration that is not exactly friendly to them wins in November, well thats pretty much it. Iran and Russia are watching our election closely because they know an Obama win will allow them to do what they want.

Even The Washington Post editorialized in Thursday editions that Ms. Pelosi's attempt to establish a shadow presidency is not only counterproductive, it is foolish.
“The leading daily an-Nahar attributed the report to well informed sources, noting that the deployment backs a similar massing of fighters by pro-Syrian Palestinian factions in the Bekaa valley, especially Ahmed Jibril’s Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC) in the Qoussayah area.”
How many bombs would it take to wipe out 3 divisions massing?
Israel could drop one Neutron bomb per division and then they could salvage the damaged Sov, err, Russian armor and weapons.
Here comes the war of Gog & Magog. Ezekial 38. The burden of Damascus. Israel will use the Sampson Option and annihalate the enemy but will pay a steep price for acting too PC for so long. The Great Tribulation lasting several years is upon us. What can we do in America? We can declare our economy a national emergency, de-regulate and pump up biodeisel. We need to become energy independent, create millions of jobs and learn to sacrifice for one another.
Sounds more like a threat to Lebanon than Israel. Forward positioning their army makes them more vulnerable to air attacks and stretches logistic chains. It would be suicidal if their aim was to instigate hostilities with Israel. (Assumes that the Syrians would adopt a rope-a-dope strategy, waiting for the United Nations to bail them out.)
There were reports that in the event of a Hezbollah attack on Israel, Israel would retaliate against Syria, attacking through Lebanon.
Syria may be positioning forces on the Lebanese border and activating its proxy groups inside the country so that in the event of conflict breaking out, Syria could swing these divisions into Lebanon to meet the IDF there.
If Syria openly enters the conflict with Israel, Israel can ignore what are militarily mere pinpricks from Lebanon and concentrate on targets in Syria.
One Syrian Armored Division has three Armored Brigades with each three Tank Battalions equipped with 300 T-72 main battle tanks.
I hope the U.S. ships off the lebanese coast have the
Syrian border targeted.
tic toc . . .
almost seems like they are preparing for a redux of 1982 when Sharon brought the IDF through southern lebabon and Assad Sr. counterattacked from the east through the Bekka
A "Warsaw Pact Armor (T-55,T-64B, T-72, T-80U) Division" typically runs like this:
Platoon has three tanks.
A Company has three (3) platoons + the company commander: total 10 tanks per company.
Each Battalion has 3-4 companies (30-40 tanks) + the BN CO and BN XO: total 32-42 tanks per BN.
Each Brigade/Regiment has 3-4 Battalions per BDE/RGT for approx 96-126 tanks +BDE CO and/or BDE XO: 98ish-130 tanks.
Each Armored Division has 3-4 BDEs or RGTs with a total of approximately 300-400 tanks.
This does not include any mechanized (infantry on armored personnel carriers)...the are not technically TANKS.
I doubt that x3 armored divisions are moving without mechanized support. There is alot of terrain to clear of Israeli AT forces in the Golan that only a man with a rifle and grenade can neutralize.
Rule of thumb for an Mechanized Infantry Division (BMP-1, BMP-2, BMP-3, BTR-70/80/90) is to subtract one (1) of the 3-4 Mechanized Infantry Brigades and add an organic armor brigade.
Syria has three "elite" (full time or Guards) units:
The "Al-Hasakah", "Dayr AzZawr" Brigade Tactial Group (BTG), and the "Nidah" (20th Tank BN attached) Mech. Inf BDE. They consist of more modern T72M4 and some T-80s, BMP-2 and BMP-3 (MID), BTR-80/90).
