For ages the Chinese have thought the rest of the world as barbaric and not worth venturing into. This nearsighted culture is now looking beyond their borders. The west had better hope that the political chains they wear put a damper on creative inquiry into science and engineering or else China will emerge as a soulless monster causing great pain in Asia.

The ironic thing is that the history of Tibet did have many instances where the religious elite treated the population as servants of the state much like the way China sees her population. Now there is a Dali Lama that recognized the need for change and reform, and was open to learning from groups that were previously derided in the culture.
