You would have to go back to the days of the Spanish Inquisition to find find similarities to how they treat people who question the religion.

These days, you can become a lapsed Catholic with little more than a raised eyebrow. You can go off and join another church with your head intact and even well-wishes from members of your parish that they hope you'll be happy in your choice.

However, if you ever decide to leave Islam, dearie, you'll be looking over your shoulder for the rest of your life.
