Last April, The Wall Street Journal published an op-ed piece by me titled "Mr. Spitzer Has Gone Too Far." In it I expressed my belief that in America, everyone--including Hank Greenberg--is innocent until proven guilty. "Something has gone seriously awry," I wrote, "when a state attorney general can go on television and charge one of America's best CEOs and most generous philanthropists with fraud before any charges have been brought, before the possible defendant has even had a chance to know what he personally is alleged to have done, and while the investigation is still under way."
Since there have been rumors in the media as to what happened next, I feel I must now set the record straight. After reading my op-ed piece, Mr. Spitzer tried to phone me. I was traveling in Texas but he reached me early in the afternoon. After asking me one or two questions about where I got my facts, he came right to the point. I was so shocked that I wrote it all down right away so I would be sure to remember it exactly as he said it. This is what he said:
"Mr. Whitehead, it's now a war between us and you've fired the first shot. I will be coming after you. You will pay the price. This is only the beginning and you will pay dearly for what you have done. You will wish you had never written that letter."

It’s amazing how many lives that man has ruined, often based merely on accusations and intimidation against innocent people.

Mr. Spitzer Has Gone Too Far
Excerpt:
Recent media reports have focused on the different treatment Warren Buffett and Hank Greenberg have received as the two parties to the same transaction. I wonder if that has anything to do with Mr. Greenberg’s political opposition to the attorney general on the issue of tort reform? Or perhaps his public criticism of the attorney general’s aggressive pursuit of New York corporate executives?
Many companies in the insurance industry — including Mr. Buffett’s — have engaged to a much greater extent in the same business transactions for which Mr. Greenberg is being pursued by Mr. Spitzer and for which he was unceremoniously dismissed from the company he led and grew for 40 years. Singling Mr. Greenberg out does not seem either fair or proper.
Maybe Gov. Spitzer and Mike Nifong can hang out together later?
Nifong wouldn’t want to be in the same room with someone as unethical as Spitzer.
Spitzer is a thug and a punk. I’m laughing my butt off at his fall. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy!
Actually Spitzer sounds like a clone of Hillary.
Typical arrogant New York lawyer. Those who are more religious than I should pray real hard for him in order to offset my sincere wishes and hopes that he is miserable and suffers greatly.
I truly and sincerely wish the dirty, elitist, gun-grabbing, statist bastard a bad year/life/eternity.
On the other hand, as a father I wish strength to his wife and their kids. The horrible weasel has destroyed their present life and they are going to have to rebuild it.
Rent the movie “going to prison”. Good movie, think of Spitzer when you watch it.
Well, you know what they say, “birds of a feather flock together”.
Can you say, "Fresh fish"?
Here’s another telling oldie:

bump
Ha! Good call.
I just read that his wife was pushing him not to resign.
I have zero sympathy for the woman. She knows who he is, and let him loose on us, the public.
