Tamara Mitchell-Ford, who is serving a drunken driving jail sentence in Collierville, was indicted Thursday on two more drunken-driving cases.
The 43-year-old ex-wife of former state senator John Ford picked up the cases before she was ordered in November to begin serving 11 months and 27 days for violating her probation on a DUI case from February of last year.
In anticipation of the indictments, her attorney, Juni Ganguli, said recently a tentative plea agreement with prosecutors called for Mitchell-Ford to plead guilty to both new DUIs and to be given concurrent sentences of 11 months and 29 days in jail.
He said the sentence would be consecutive to her Collierville sentence, which calls for her release Nov. 5. Mitchell-Ford then would serve about six more months with an approximate release date of May 2009.
Ganguli made the comments in federal court where a judge was trying to determine when Mitchell-Ford would be able to care for her three children when their father, John Ford, begins serving his 66-month prison sentence for bribery.
Ford was ordered to report to federal prison by the end of April.
A court date in Criminal Court has not been set for Mitchell-Ford on the new charges.
The indictments stem from:
* a Sept. 4 routine traffic stop last year on Poplar near Houston Levee in Collierville. Her young son who was riding with her was picked up by another family member.
* an Oct. 24 three-car crash near Poplar and Yates in East Memphis. Police found an open bottle of vodka in her jacket in the front seat of her car.
In both cases, Mitchell-Ford also was indicted on driving on a suspended, revoked or canceled license, reckless driving and refusal to submit to a breathalyzer test.
