NEW YORK - WNBC.com has learned that NYPD and FBI officials are now revisiting an incident that occurred along the Canadian border last month because they are concerned there might be a connection to the Times Square explosion. Four men trying to cross the border tried to flee the checkpoint when Canadian officials tried to question them, investigators said. Two of the men got away, officials said.
The men left behind a backpack with photos of various New York City locations including Times Square, according to sources speaking on condition of anonymity. One of the photos included the military recruitment center, officials said. As a precaution, NYPD outreach officers last month went to various New York City businesses, including the Times Square recruitment center, to investigate if there had been any recent threats. No threat information was known at the time.

4 men crossing...2 got away. My math may be rusty but that implies to me that 2 were caught and perhaps identified/questioned.
sounds like we got two guys that need some waterboarding to me.
Further proof that Michael from (”Meffa, MA)” Bloomberg is an A@@hat and always has been.
His comments are so superfluous as a Mayor he should be ashamed.. but then again Mikey is all about Mikey.
The two will be made members of Parliament in canada.
The article is a bit vague on which side of the border the four were. Canadian black block anarchists? But “two captured” should have been the headline.
Al-Qaida terrorists may be working more urgently to plan an attack on the United States in order to maintain their credibility and ability to recruit followers, the military commander in charge of defending the US said.
Air Force Gen. Gene Renuart, who is chief of the US Northern Command, told reporters Thursday that he has not seen any direct threats tied to the US presidential elections. But he said it would be imprudent to think that such threats are not there.

Right now, my money’s on white suburban punk anarchists.
Bet the captured ones were questioned and released.

The Gathering of Eagles, a patriotic organization dedicated to the public support of all Military persons, active duty or veteran, announces a patriotic rally in front of the Times Square Recruiting Station in New York City, NY on March 8 from 1PM to 4PM.
The Police have allowed us a rally at the Times Square Recruiting Station Island, 43rd Street and Broadway, to hold a patriotic rally as a show of encouragement for our troops and our recruiters in New York City.
The action of trying to destroy public property and place the lives and safety of Americans in jeopardy just to make a political point must be answered with the firmest response from Patriotic Americans. In times past, these actions were considered abnormal and best ignored. The actions and national responses to the bombings and protests of the 1960’s and early 1970’s and the failure of Americans to rise up and demand an accounting of those who engage in criminal acts under the false banner of FREE SPEECH led to a national embarrassment at the end of the Vietnam War, and eventually to a Military pullout and subsequent deaths of a Million People when the North Vietnamese broke the Paris Peace Accord treaty and invaded South Vietnam in 1975.
This criminal action against the recruiting station in Times Square has the potential of leading a national downturn in the minds of those who disagree with the war.
It is imperative that Patriotic Americans demand a show of force by law enforcement and Patriotic Groups in calling these acts what they are: cowardice and criminal.

Emboldened by and celebrating the comeback of Shrillery?
The two probably were - what ever a parliament is! *grin*
When will be close that border?! *not grinning*
Oh how I hope they can catch the perp!
Even so, this sounds like something that the bigger dogs would do(like AQ). Call it hyperbole, and we don’t know the motives nor why they would be in such a hurry to do this(then again they are from Canada). I wouldn’t be surprised if it is an Anti-War protestor, though I find it silly how insignificant this person is compared to the soldiers fighting to prevent attacks on our soil.
It is almost like it becomes a “Me Me Me” moment yet the only people who give a crap are the ones who are sick of these Attention Getters. An unnamed backpack wearer on a bike, and that is how it should remain even if we disclose his identity.
The other person might have gotten through to the Consulate(possibly a few activists dealing with our border situations) in Mexico. They are probably white, suburban punks in that it seems to be a milder version of the Weather Underground’s terrorist activities in the late 60s-early 70s. Kind of interesting that one of the Presidential candidates met with their flagship members sometime this decade, eh?
That’s a big 10-4!
Roger that.
If there are know terrorist cells in Canada..and they won’t take care of them..maybe we should send a Predator or the Seals to take them out.
What is Canada going to do?
Me to but, I'm not sure why.
“Right now, my moneys on white suburban punk anarchists.”
Very likely true.
But, just as likely is that the supplies ,funding, motivation, and encouragement is coming from terrorists who flee just prior to the planned attack.
Hence, the link between the two stories.
I agree. We know that AQ has been interested for some time in developing white operatives in the west. Had this been a true jihadi, he’d probably have blown himself up at midday on Wall street, taking with him as many infidels as possible.
If the guy is a white guy who had been co-opted by AQ, he’d be way to valuable to risk on a simple pipe bomb planting mission. That’s the guy that AQ instructs to get a job working security at the airport or a construction job where he’s got access to demolition explosives or perhaps even as a volunteer to a United States Presidential candidate.
The target seems wrong to me for ME terrorists. It appears more like someone’s been watching the Berkeley recruiting saga, saw that Berkeley got lots of bad press in the media and decided to show some unsolicited solidarity.
Perhaps as a distraction but you are probably right. Usually any violent, dramatic and evil act always has its own imitators. We have stopped the AQ imitators, but the counter-recruitment efforts are so below the radar that we cannot stop the imitators especially if they are nuisances.
I also agree that AQ loves collateral damage, but the maps, the locations everything makes me think of a terrorist group(like AQ) casing a place to do whatever evil they can think of inside or outside of that area. Now there are also other groups who love that stuff but are very different from AQ(like the Weather Underground who made it a point that they would only use their bombings as political statements and not as murders). What we are basically looking for is a lower-profile insignificant version of Mark David Chapman, who used a tabloid cover to find and kill John Lennon.
I also agree that AQ is smarter than just some guy on a bike breaking a few windows. The volunteer to a Presidential campaign is indeed an interesting suggestion, could there be a lot more with the conversations that the Weather Underground leaders had with Obama than we think? Perhaps that is why Obama seems so new, messianic, and has a checkered past that he isn’t too prone to rhapsodize about.
I am not a conspiracy nut, nor do I think that anything is “going on”. Afterall using that kind of logic, maybe Huma has something up her sleeve.
Yeah, the ‘peace’ people...
FortMcmurray Alberta!...send the squads.
Please
I agree that this is more likely a domestic liberal than an Al Qaeda operative.
However, two things to consider:
1) Even with border control, government stinks at controlling the border.
2) Don’t discount the possibility that this is a VietNam draft dodger coming home for one last “hurrah”.
I think it’s white suburban anarchist punks, too; these were probably the guys they caught at the border. I imagine they released the two they grabbed, but the others appear to have scampered off into the woods.
I doubt that they were AQ. If AQ has gotten so weak all it can do now is throw a cherry bomb at a recruiting station, I’d say we’ve won! But unfortunately, I don’t think that’s the case.
BTW, wasn’t Canada giving “sanctuary” to a couple of American soldiers who had gone AWOL? I think the incident happened a couple of years ago. But in any case, Canada is high on the list of places for US military-haters to hang out.
Canadian officials question people trying to get in to Canada.
Maybe because the article says “anarchist-types.”.
;-)
They must have been trying to enter Canada. I have never known a “checkpoint”, manned by Canada customs, to exist when one is leaving Canada for the US.
Given that they were stopped by Canadian border guards, they were probably on the US side trying to enter Canada.
Nope, their deportation is working its way through the courts but they've lost every hearing.
Stop selling us oil, gas and electricity?
Maybe pull Canadian troops out of Kandahar and present the US with the need to find another battle group on short notice to replace the Canadian one. Good luck on getting NAYO to kick in troops to that hot theatre,
Note that the Canada bashers did not seem to recognize in this article the fact that the US only knows about these people because of the close co-operation between the two countries' enforcement and intel agencies.
Yet The suggested response by at least one Freeper on this thread is to reward this co-operation by bombing Canada.
That’s good to know!
Not only was he losing at the tribunal level and on appeal but he saw that no US deserter was getting any sympathy from the Crown or any of the tribunals and courts involved.
My guess the day after was
90% Leftwing anti-war types
9% Islamic terrorists
1% someone trying to keep the terror issue in the forefront
now it’s 51% category A and 49% category B
Welcome it! At least I would. By all means, I would LOVE this to happen.
Your information couldn’t be more wrong regarding the deserters: We threw their sorry asses OUT of here and returned them to the tender attentions of your military.
They TRIED to claim refugee status, after volunteering to serve in the US armed forces. Our courts basically laughed them out of the country.
"We cannot allow this to happen to the men and women serving in our military whether they are at home or abroad," McCain said.
Mmmm Hmmm. Porous borders and de facto amnesty for all illegals, regardless of gang affiliation or criminal background, is a great way to walk that talk, Senator.
Thanks for the info!
I still suspect roving anarchists; where their money comes from, I have no idea, but they seem to have the bucks to cruise the universe, showing up in one country or another long enough to cause trouble and then move on.

*While the exact numbers are not known, thouasands of Canadians went to the United States, joined the United States Military, and fought in
Vietnam.
*Not everyone in Canada is a moonbat, hippie, tree-hugger, or desserter-lover, in fact, they are in the minority, which is why our far left political party will never be elected—
The United States has its share of moonbat, hippie, tree-hugger, or desserter-lovers as well-—
* Canada is also at war—you will find very little patience for desserters here.
What are you doing to take care of terrorist cells in the United States?
Maybe we should send the PPCLI, or RCR, and a battery of guns in to take care of them.
Canada ping
Well said.
Code Pink, behind the Berkley recruiting saga, helps fund AQ.
