It seems that someone in the antiwar community was a bit reckless spreading the word about a phone conference for United for Peace and Justice. In thier zeal to inform everyone that a conference was taking place they failed to take the phone number and passcode off of the agenda email.
Please notice that there is an RSVP but that really shouldn't keep anyone from logging in and keeping their mouth shut or just making up a nmae for a grassroots antiwar group.
Have Fun...
Dear Friends,
This Wednesday, March 5th, at 8pm ET, United For Peace And Justice will be holding a conference call to discuss our legislative action agenda for the spring. As we all know, the fifth year anniversary of the invasion and occupation of Iraq is looming, and after the March recess Congress will be introducing legislation that will provide over 100 billion dollars in war funding. The focus of the call will emphasize how we can put enough pressure on members of Congress to end the occupation of Iraq through our mass grassroots mobilization of the UFPJ coalition.
Tentative agenda:
1. Legislative update
2. Legislative Action strategy to defeat the war funding
-- actions targeting Congress for the 5th anniversary
-- in-district visits during the March recess (March 14 - 31)
-- ideas for April & May actions
3. Specific legislative asks & tools
-- Target leadership to refuse to bring a funding bill to the floor that continues to fund the occupation
-- Public commitment to refuse to continue funding the occupation, using Waters Woolsey Lee letter (http://www.unitedforpeace.org/article.php?id=2929) or other.
-- Filibuster campaign
More materials will be available shortly. Here is a draft of proposed legislative asks for meetings:
WHAT WE WANT U.S. REPRESENTATIVES TO DO
1. Commit to publicly and privately urging House leadership not to bring up any more bills to fund the occupation of Iraq.
2. Commit publicly to voting No on any bill that funds the occupation of Iraq through a public statement or signing the bi-partisan letter initiated by Reps. Waters, Woolsey and Lee: http://www.unitedforpeace.org/article.php?id=2929
3. Commit publicly to voting No on any procedural vote to bring funding of the occupation of Iraq up for a vote.
(If our representatives want to seriously represent us, they need to commit to not playing any sort of games with the lives of Iraqis and our loved ones.)
4. Commit to publicly and privately whipping colleagues to do the same.
WHAT WE WANT U.S. SENATORS TO DO
1. Commit to publicly and privately urging Senate leadership not to bring up any more bills to fund the occupation of Iraq.
2. Commit publicly to filibustering any bill that funds the occupation of Iraq.
(Some senators may want to attach an exception to this for any bill that only funds withdrawal, and that should not be a problem, but there's no reason for us to encourage it. Such a bill would be vetoed. A commitment to filibuster would follow the model of what Senator Chris Dodd did with telecom immunity. Filibustering cannot be done by one person alone and does not involve giving long speeches. It is a commitment to vote no on "cloture." A cloture vote is a procedural vote to bring a bill to a vote and requires 60 votes to pass, which means that 41 senators voting No or not showing up blocks the bill. Our goal, therefore is to find 41 senators who commit to filibustering, which is easier than finding 51 to vote No, or 60 to vote Yes on a good bill, or 67 to override a veto. We will never find 41 unless the first brave few lead the way.) 3. Commit publicly to voting No on any bill that funds the occupation of Iraq.
(If any such bill makes it past cloture, we want our senators to vote No on it.)
4. Commit to publicly and privately whipping colleagues to do the same.

I think it’s one of those FReeper gremlins
That was me just a minute ago with the big “Hello” Just waiting for a good place to make a remark, or whatever.
Is that the gay nazis with the raspberries?
LOL.
I can’t do this without laughing at your posts!
I can’t play poker, either : (
I have my own phone muted because I have been laughing my head off. I’m so tempted to un-mute and start snoring.
These people have really whined about the Dems.
Anyone still on?
It’s over. This was as much fun as a three ring circus.
losers say: goodnight
I hope someone has thought to record the audio
I have no idea of when I was muted, and not.
I can’t believe how long it took them to figure out this wasn’t a technical difficulty.
My phone has it’s own mute button so it’s great with conference calls.
Wouldn’t you love to tell them there’s been an last minute demonstration and set them up to all meet somewhere?
Probably just as well, my ribs were starting to hurt.
maybe we should have the admin delete the posts so the commies can’t google it
No kidding. They are dumb as a box of rocks and freepers did great.
No idea /snicker
