Obama appeals to the American Serbs

In a response to the inquest on issues by the Serbian Unity Congress (SUC), Presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama says that as President he will work to assure Kosovo Serbs are protected, that he will support Bosnian Dayton Accords and the integration of Serbia into EU and Euro-Atlantic structures.

"I also noted in my statement that Serbia and its people have suffered terribly over that past two decades and that Serbs deserve a more peaceful, prosperous, and hopeful future," says Obama.

Barack Hussein Obama is a Senator from Illinois whose father is from Kenya.

Obama said that, as President, he will encourage talks and dialogue between sides in Kosovo in order to facilitate peaceful resolution to the "remaining disputes".

"As part of that responsibility," Sen. Obama says that "I believe that peace and stability there can only truly be ensured by solutions that are acceptable to all sides."

On the SUC inquest about the Bosnia as to whether Sen. Obama would "protect the Dayton Accord guarantees for self-rule granted to the two autonomous entities of Bosnia?" the Senator said that he will continue the US support for the Dayton Accords as basis for peace in Bosnia and "in particular for their provisions relating to the rights and responsibilities of the two entities within Bosnia and Herzegovina."

"Similarly," says Senator Obama "I would continue support for the Erdut Agreement guarantees and will make clear that I expect all parties to that agreement, including Croatia, to honor their commitments."

The Erdut Agreement was signed by a Croatian and Serbian representative in November 1995 after Croatian troops expelled quarter of the million Serbs from Croatia. The agreement stipulates that conditions for return of "refugees and displaced persons to their homes of origin" and restitution of property must be created.

Obama appeals to the American Serbs

Perhaps. He doesn't appeal to me, though, nor a lot of others I know.

I thought that most of the Kosovars that were given sanctuary in the US were Muslim. Remember that Hillary set up that refugee camp for Kosovars at Fort Dix and then a couple of the came back with plans to blow it up? Muslims.

The Chicago City Council has been, over the years, the premiere "Serb" deliberative body in the world.

More recently they've begun kicking the Commies out in Belgrade so it's possible that Chicago is second.

As a Chicago politician he knows he has to pay attention to the legtimate needs of the Serbs.

" ... peace and stability there can only truly be ensured by solutions that are acceptable to all sides."

That is the nub of the matter. Sometimes there are no solutions that are acceptable to all sides. To wit, Israel and the arabs. Now, kosovo and Serbia. True peace nearly always comes after the cessation of hostilities when one side has been thoroughly trounced.

Well...

1. We want Kosovo back, not protection of ghettoised Serbs there
2. Hold integration of Serbia into EU and Euro-Atlantic structures. We are free and idependant, and we like that!

3. So.... he couldnt become president of Kenya and he is trying his luck in US?

:)

I had wandered how long it would be until the subject of Kosovo became a topic of interest to the Presidential aspirants.

That’s meant to be “wondered” not “wandered”.

Thanks.

I read this as a pledge to the Christian Serbs...

I read this as an additional attempt, by Obama, to win the Ohio primary this coming Tuesday - March 4-th, 2008.

Nice try on Obama's part, but he's waffling.

John McCain was the most hawkish Republican against the Serbs on behalf of bin Laden’s war effort against them. A Clinton was the President at the time. No wonder they’d pin their hopes on Obama.
