John Ford must report to prison in 60 days, U.S. District Court Judge J. Daniel Breen decided this morning.
Ford, 65, has been assigned to a federal lockup near El Paso, Texas.
Ford, who was sentenced to 5 years in prison for taking $55,000 in bribes as a legislator, looked grim as Breen announced his decision.
Mr. Ford just said Lets move forward on the appeal, said his court-appointed appellate attorney, Robert Brooks. Hes a very practical man. He understands life and its ups and downs.
On Wednesday, Ford argued he needed to delay his imprisonment because he needed to care for his children because their mother is in jail.
Tamara Mitchell-Ford is serving a jail sentence for a DUI in Collierville and is not expected to be released until November. However, she has two other DUI charges pending indictment next month that could lead to more jail time.
Breen said it is unfortunate that both parents have legal issues involving incarceration, but that nothing has changed in Fords situation since a hearing last November.
There will be no further extension, he said.

How old are the kids?
I understand his wife has come home late at night in the past and found him gone, and the kids asleep in the bed. Good dad, he is not.
The background: he divorced his wife Tamara in 2002, and their divorce decree absolved him from any child support payments. Moreover, it did not establish any custody arrangements at all for the children.
Then, in 2004, while he and his ex-wife were both in serious legal trouble, he fathered another child by his ex-wife two years after the divorce.
This enabled her to be very, very pregnant during her trial and also allowed him to argue that his minor children would be vulnerable without a parent on the outside.
I believe the child's conception was calculated for this purpose.
The record shows he studiously avoided any legal responsibility for supporting the other siblings and that he declined to seek custody of any of the other three.
Sounds like Mom and Dad should be up on some additional State charges as well.
Oh BOY.
Seems I remember reading something about him having several children, some with a wife, and others he doesn’t support with other women.
Tennessee ping!
My brother has perfect attendance at La Tuna.
A Ford will die in prison
He has a life sentence
I’m SO sure you or I would get just as long to begin serving our prison sentence.
This kind of crap just infuriates me. Most people head to the prison about five minutes after sentencing. Not the rich and/or powerful, however. Their sentences must be convenient.
MM
Yeah, but folks in Memphis don’t need to be reminded of the party affiliation of the ruling family.
While you’re at it, check out John’s sister, Ophelia.
HAHAHAHA, I crack me up.
Keep in mind that he has this “thing” in Nashville to deal with. If he is found guilty there, and I sure hope he is found guilty, He will get more time in prison. My hope is the sentence he gets in Nashville will be run AFTER the one he does in Texas. He’s 65 now. He’ll be at least 70 when his stretch in The Lone Star State is done. If he gets 10 years in Nashville, he’ll be 85 when he gets out.
No more three-piece Brooks brothers suits.
No more Italian made shoes.
No more pedicures.
No more money.
A last but not least:
NO MORE WOMEN.
He will die in prison, which one is TBD.
He was convicted LAST April. He’s had almost a full year to arrange for the childrens welfare while he, and his ex, are away for a while. What a pathetic human being he is.
So long, John. Enjoy Texas.
Just temporary impediments for a life-long recipient of unearned passes when he should have been challenged all along. The family has had a lock on the Memphis funeral home business for nearly a century.
Which explains a lot about Ford, Jr.
Playmates who don’t smart-mouth back.
