ALBANY - A thousand immigrants from across the state, including dozens from Long Island, descended on the Capitol yesterday, demanding translators in hospitals, better work conditions and English as a second language classes.
The Long Islanders made the trek as part of an annual Immigrants' Day of Action here, but specifically they are concerned about a bill in the Suffolk County Legislature that would require contractors to prove their workers are not illegal immigrants.

My parents were immigrants.
Legal ones.
They had to wait for the “quota”.
15 years for my Dad, and 8 years for my Mom.
By contrast, these demonstrators are CRIMINALS!!
I call them invaders. Why our "authorities" don't see them as such is beyond me.

“Conquistadores”, even.
As long as you have them all together, what better time to round em up, put them on a bus, send them back across the border.

We have an entire wing of our two party political system devoted to the cause of our enemy during a time of war and that’s not treason.

This would be an appropriate event to show up with an “Individuality Conveys Excellence” jacket with just the
I.C.E. on it and cameras to take pictures with, or would that disrupt the event?

Good point.
But in recent years, the overwhelming majority of demonstrating “immigrants” has been comprised of “CRimmigrants”.
Are they too dumb to learn english? If schwarzenegger and van damme can do it anyone can.
A. If they were legal immigrants, the article would have said so very clearly; it didn't, so they weren't.
B. Several citations in the story were to concerns about bills to punish employers of illegal aliens. If the protestors were legal immigrants, why would they be concerned about the "rights" of illegal immigrants, who by definition didn't follow the same rules that legal immigrants do?

Why do these people feel that we owe them anything? We did not invite them here. If they want to complain, let the businesses deal with them. I didn’t invite them and I refuse to be made responsible for them.

Just reading the headline, I was wondering what kinds of “rights” they were demanding.
Now that I’ve read the article, it’s not rights they want. These are not rights; they are exceptions. They want us to accomodate them and conform to their languages, customs, problems. Forget it.
When exactly did I say any of the above?
Others have indicated that no where in the article was their illegal status brought up.
