February 21, 2008: Vermont businessman and former state government official Charlie Kireker is becoming Chair of the board of Air America Radio as his newly formed Pendulum Media agrees to purchase a controlling interest in the liberal talk network from Green Family Media. Kireker takes over from Stephen Green, who will remain on the Air America board.
Green Family Media completed its purchase of Air America from Piquant LLC in March 2007, six months after the network filed for bankruptcy under previous owner Piquant LLC. Air America President Mark Green and COO Scott Elberg will remain in place under the new ownership, and Philippe Collin has joined the company as SVP/GM of Interactive Media.
"I'm thrilled to become the Chair of one of the new, leading journalistic voices in America," Kireker said. "The investors in our group have great confidence in the future growth of Air America's audience and media reach."
Kireker said Green has "been instrumental in the effort to save and stabilize Air America" and continued, "Now in its fourth year of existence, Air America has consolidated its operations and is ready to pursue an expansion strategy and profitable growth in and after this pivotal election year."
Kireker is the co-founder and former Managing Director of Vermont venture capital fund FreshTracks Capital. He headed the Massachusetts Industrial Finance Agency in the 1980s and spent 10 years on the Council of Economic Advisors for then-Vermont Governor Howard Dean
Which "new, leading journalistic voices" might those be? When you tune in to Air America, all you hear are crickets.
I really hate when someone uses my name without permission!
Air America Radio is still on the air?
Liberalism spread it’s message best with pop and rock music, and it’s talk hosts were the old DJ’s.
In this additional age of basement and garage bands, home-cut CD’s, and voices yearning to have their wares get heard, the liberal voice would be wise to revive the old DJ spinning the discs, and helping to bring Elvis to fame.
Just this one man’s opinion, and it’ll not get heard, but they would be crazy to attempt again to duplicate the conservative passion for straight political talk. (That works, because the conservatives have no other voice.)
Singing poets no longer have a voice.
I love how he wrote that one of his issues was “economic fairness.” Why doesn’t he just give his money away? Oh, wait..he just bought Air America...he’s already taken care of that.
I was going to buy Air America myself.
But then I thought “well, a Coke would be more refreshing, and would only cost a nickel more, so...”
Q: How do you make a small fortune in broadcasting?
A: Start with a large one.
I would love to hear the heads exploding among Err America listeners when the bass line from the Pretenders' "My City Was Gone" started up on their favorite radio stations.
Liberals only want to give your money away.
Only a Vermont Socialist would buy this loser.
If anyone remembers, the Green takeover of AAR was a bait and switch scam to screw their creditiors and it worked. You or I would be in jail or facing serious fines if we did the same.
Manhattan real estate developer Stephen L Green is the brother of Mark Green, who lost to Bloomberg in the last NYC Mayor’s race.
Within a year, they’ll be mexican music format.
Only a Vermont Socialist would buy this loser.
True. Or maybe Howard Stern who would gain the 7 listeners.
Thanks for the ping!

Oh come one. Its one thing to say “I am a liberal and I want to support liberal media.”
But a statement like Kirekar just made is like putting on a “I am a wanker” hat and marching around Time’s Square.
That was very clever!
I’m surprised there’s anything to sell.
I thought the only station left was in Portland, OR.
I get to skip over that channel every day.
It’s basically a way to launder campaign contributions to democrats.
Indeed, there is so much fluffy bilge we can skip every day, along with the ads that sponsor it!
No wonder we have a spring in our step!
