University of Colorado regents on Wednesday selected Bruce Benson as the school's 22nd president, shelving concerns about his academic credentials and partisan background and instead funneling hope to his pledge to fix the school's financial problems.

Very surprised the Regents voted this guy in, but it does seem to be a good move for the University. They really need to try and stop the move to the radical left.

I live several miles from Boulder, but I think I can hear the shreiking from here. Ward Churchill would have been a more acceptable candidate to the CU leftists.

I went to CSU and have an admittedly jaded view of CU. However, I will at least give them some minor credit for slowing their rapid slide to the left. Churchhill has at least been partly silenced and Benson seems like he would bring a very different perspective to the University. I hope it works out, but I wouldn’t be surprised if various groups watch everything that man does and the every time he says something remotely conservative, they will demand his resignation. As I recall Summers (?) from Harvard was eviscerated because he suggested that boys and girls might learn differently and benefit from different styles of teaching.

Great move. Probably the only university in the country in the last 10 or 20 years that has chosen a conservative president.
“but he made remarks during forums at the university that raised the anger of an already skeptical audience, among them a suggestion that climate change could be an unproven theory.”
Ha, ha, ha. I wonder what he thinks about fake Indians and gender benders?

If his credentials pass muster, why would the regents be concerned about his party affiliation? (sarc)
I have yet to hear of concerns in academia about Democrat affiliations. What hypocrits!
