French velcro.

Actually the French invented what we now call Velcro^TM. A French scientist back in WW 11 came up with an aluminum hook and loop material, which later in the 1960s DuPont implemented with a new material called Nylon^TM and patented as Velcro^TM. It proved useful with military and space applications, so much so that people still think that NASA invented it.
