VILLIERS-LE-BEL, France — More than 1,000 police raided housing projects outside Paris in an early morning sweep Monday, detaining 33 people in a bid to find rioters who led an outburst of violence here last year, a prosecutor said.

Police were mobilized for raids in Villiers-le-Bel and in the neighboring towns of Sarcelles, Gonesse and Arnouville as part of the investigation into the November riots, according to police.

Marie-Therese de Givry, prosecutor of Pontoise, said a total of 33 people were arrested, raising the number from some 20 cited earlier by police.

Most of those detained, aged 19 to 31, had been known to police, mainly for previous violence, according to police.

In one raid, about 100 police officers surrounded one building in Villiers-le-Bel across from a library and pre-school that were burned down by rioters. It was not immediately clear whether there were arrests in that building.

Violence erupted Nov. 25-26 in Villiers-le-Bel, populated largely by families of immigrant backgrounds, after two teenage boys were killed in a motorbike crash with a police car. Police and local officials said

I was over there when this happened.

First of all the “victims” who were killed on a scooter, were driving irresponsibly and then hit by a police car. Basically it was suicide by cop on a scooter.

Then when they rioted they injured quite a few cops a few of whom could have easily been killed.

Sarko was in China when this happened. He took the “red-eye” back, and no sooner had his plane touched down that he was whisked away to the northern suburbs and he was at the hospital bed of the injured policemen in almost zero time.

He then let it be known that he was going to “get” the perps and that he didn’t care how long it took or what methods he had to use.

He also said he wasn’t prepared to cede 1 square meter of French territory to any group of punks (voyous).

Given all that, these arrests don’t surprise me. My guess is that those arrested will be “encouraged” to tell what they know.

The French have had large population booms in modern times. Andre Maurois, in his History of France, noted a great post-WW2 boom. And a Frenchman’s mistress’ child is still a Frenchman or -woman. What France needs is to swing away from secularism to Catholicism which has characterized trends in the past.

I would disagree that the French are degenerates. France is not the colonial master anymore, but first among equals in the Francophone world. These immigrants are not all a liability, but too many of them don’t have anything positive to offer France but unskilled labor.

If a person is hard-working, has a decent family life, and is willing to tolerate me and mine, I will tolerate him and his. If he gets nasty, it’s time for me to invite him to go home.
