ACCOKEEK, Md. -- A car plowed into a crowd that apparently gathered to watch a drag race on a suburban road early Saturday, killing seven people and injuring at least four, police said.
The car went out of control on Route 210 around 3:40 a.m. and hit people standing on the roadside, Prince George's County Police Cpl. Clinton Copeland said. A tractor-trailer that came by shortly afterward may also have struck someone on the road as it tried to avoid the crash, he said.
-snip-
Route 210 has two lanes in each direction and traffic lights about every 150 to 200 yards in Accokeek, about 20 miles south of Washington.

Ban Cars !
Brilliant...
Was one of them one of those nasty suv’s?
Whatever happened to midnight basketball? Wasn’t that supposed to solve all of the “youth” problems?
—good one —I had it ready to post as an example of the difference in media exposure of car related and gun related events—bet the driver and vehicle were licensed and registered—
Reenacting Rebel Without A Cause maybe?
More likely rice racers.
I understand your point, but that’s a bit of a stretch
-—How???
It’s obvious that the media is covering this, and these people willingly put themselves in harms way
I’m sure the media and the demagogues will pay this even more attention than the latest campus shooting, because more people were killed.
yup!
Dangerous to be standing downroad.
I recall, in my younger years, dodging bell housing pieces, after a mustang missed a shift into 2nd gear.
People watching and participating in illegal street racing at 3 AM?
Score another for the gene pool.
Thanks to Discovery Channel, it lends new meaning for shows like “Pinks” or MTV’s “Jack Ass”.
The genetic pool is less stressed this morning.
Damn Navy officers
Well...maybe it was the DRIVER of the Mustang that missed the shift?
He’d just spent big bucks rebuilding the engine, so he was pretty pissed about the trani. (If you’re over 13, don’t go there....)
“Thanks to Discovery Channel, it lends new meaning for shows like Pinks or MTVs Jack Ass.”
Uh, the last I checked, “Pinks” is on Speed, and they run on tracks, and no one on there would advocate running in an unsafe manner (ie, street racing).
In fact, most of the cars on there are pure track cars. The cars on Pinks are comparable to the “stock” cars on NASCAR, and no one blames NASCAR when a long-distance speed blast goes wrong on the street.
I guess I fail to see how the “Dog Whisperer Channel” has anything to do with an activity that was deemed dangerous since the 1950’s.
Any of them dui lowriders named pedro?
