Mona Charen: Why They Can't Vote for McCain
Townhall ^ | 2/08/08 | Mona Charen

Posted on 02/08/2008 2:46:25 AM PST by 668 - Neighbor of the Beast

Bradley Smith, former commissioner of the Federal Election Commission and the leading legal scholar on campaign finance issues, experienced the McCain treatment firsthand. Because Smith opposed limits on political speech, he was denounced as "corrupt" by the senator... The two did accidentally meet outside a hearing room in 2004 when they were both scheduled to testify before the Senate rules committee. At first, McCain grasped Smith's outstretched hand (Smith was in a wheelchair, recovering from surgery), but when he recognized his campaign finance opponent, he snatched his hand back, snarling, "I'm not going to shake your hand. You're a bully. You have no regard for the Constitution. You're corrupt."

Waiting for the predictable swarm of McCainiac apologists in..

This story shows you what a miserable SOB McCain is. I know I didn't get in under five minutes, but I'm still a McCain apoplecticist, does that count?

“He flatters himself that his colleagues...dislike him because he stands up for principle whereas they sell their souls...”

“He is disliked because on many, many occasions, he has been disrespectful, belligerent and vulgar to those who differ with him.”

Sounds like many of us here at FreeRepublic! HA

I wonder how this is a first amendment issue. It's campaign finance reform. I've yet to hear a word from Washington, Lincoln, Jackson, Hamilton or Grant. They have been silent.

No one has been denied a chance to speak.

For that matter, talk radio squelches free speech on a daily basis with screeners and the hosts ability to unplug the caller and yet continue as if the caller was able to respond.

Not a McPain apologist, but I was heartened by his speech yesterday after Mitt dropped out. If nothing else, he will be better than either of the Dims. It's disheartening to have to steel myself, once again, to vote for the lesser of two evils, but if it comes down to it, come November, I'll vote for the Repub ticket just because there'll be one or two things they won't do that the Dims will do.

Let's pray for a Repub Majority in both Houses so "our" candidate, if he gets in won't have a Dim majority nudging him even further left.

That line I'm sure will be said many times as McCain gets his revenge through the fairness doctrine

From the article:

McCain was a Vietnam hero. Conservatives in particular revere him for this. Indeed, his return from the political grave can probably be traced to the moment (Oct. 22) when he joshingly referred to having missed the Woodstock music festival in 1969 because "I was tied up at the time."

No doubt the best quote of the entire election process so far!

The point I get from this article is, some of the things he does are perplexing, aggravating, even infuriating... until you compare him to the opposition!

mkjessup: “Waiting for the predictable swarm of McCainiac apologists”

Well, I won’t apologize for him, and I certainly won’t condemn those who are angry right now.

I will offer some advice: vent and then get over it. Continue fighting for small government, personal responsibility, and individual freedom, but don’t marginalize yourselves by leaving the political battlefield. We lost this battle—ONE battle. Accept it and make the best of it you can. Then move on, because we’ve got many more battles ahead.

No one ever said it was going to be easy to be a conservative.

kinda like this one:

1. Suicide Voter

Voters who vote for the opposite general election candidate if their own party nominates someone other than their choice in the primary.

Suicide voters believe in ‘my way or no way’.
