Examination of Pico's remains, which have been reburied in St Mark's Church. revealed that he was well over six feet tall and burly, in direct contradiction to his portraits.

Unless those bones weren't really his.

Ever since Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, a mystical and mercurial philosopher at the court of Lorenzo de' Medici, suddenly became sick and died in 1494, it has been rumoured that foul play was involved.Yesterday they concluded that both men had been poisoned with arsenic, after finding a toxic quantity in their bones.

High levels of mercury and lead were also found.

Well, duuuuh.

Poison was widely used back then. No surprise.

Dear Mama:
You’ll never guess what happened. Last night Antonio and I dined with the Borgias. I think Lucretia likes me, she kept bringing me drinks all night. Actually, I think I had too much to drink and I’m not feeling too good so I’ll close.
Your ever-loving son, Pico

“The symptoms of arsenic poisoning are identical to those of gastritis!” (/obscure Hercule Poirot reference)
