"The National Initiative For Democracy"
WEB - Internet ^ | January 29, 2007 | Democracy Foundation

Posted on 01/20/2008 10:54:42 AM PST by RAY

George Washington said the following: “The basis of our political systems is the right of the people to make and to alter their constitutions of government.”

"The National Initiative for Democracy is a proposed law developed by The Democracy Foundation, over the past decade, along with a plan to get it enacted by the people (not by the government) creating, for the first time, a government 'by you, the people.'"

TOPICS: Government
KEYWORDS: democracy; initiative; national; referendum
This site was brought to my attentions and I'm wondering what the astute contributors to FreeRepublic think, Pro & Con, relative to there being a Constitutional Amendment allowing for the general populace to be able enact law by “national referendum”? Apparently there are approximately 26 states that currently allow for referendums to enact law.

Check out this following site to get the drift of this groups intentions: http://www.ni4d.us/

Cool, let 3 wolves and 1 lamb decide what’s for lunch.

Pure democracy is the first step to pure Marxism.

Confucius and his wisdom would be in agreement with you

Wasn’t Confucious all about sacrificing the individual in the name of Harmony....

Kinda Ironic that the great bringer of harmony united China and buried the Confuciuns alive.

In short...Dead Dog > Confucious..if only by the advantage of History :)

The National Initiative for Democracy is a legal and historical fraud. It claims to follow a precept from George Washington about the right of the people to alter their government. Washington's quote is in line with Jefferson's statement in the Declaration of Independence. HOWEVER....

The Washington quote comes from his Farewell Address to the American People. Also in that statement, Washington said, "Until and unless it is changed by the authentic act of the whole people, the Constitution is sacredly obligatory upon all." By "authentic act of the whole people" he was referring to the process of amendment under Article V of the Constitution.

Any amendment can be proposed at any time. Over 10,000 proposed amendments have been submitted in Congress over the centuries. Only 27 of them have been passed and ratified. It is a deliberately difficult process, to give our Constitution stability.

On their website, these clowns admit that their purpose is to "amend the Constitution" by action of the people, without using Article V. This is a direct assault on the Constitution itself. This is going nowhere. And the people who propose it are constitutionally illiterate. IMHO.

"Pure democracy is the first step to pure Marxism."

Hillary and Obama sure know a lot about that.

It's why our founders elected to make us a Republic where the government is of the people, by the people and for the people. The Federal government was never meant to be involved in much more than the defense of the nation. The state governments are supposed to regulate those things that the people tell them they want regulated. That way, government doesn't get so out of control and power hungry officials have to seek power elsewhere. The power is to be with the people in state sized increments. That way, there are stop gaps built in to prevent what we have now. We've come a seemingly irrevocable distance from that in just over 230 years. A vastly bloated Federal government that indulges it's individual members with those things that will insure their cushy life style and hang the citizens who finance it all. Only returning to the intended form of government can save America.

Democracy ALWAYS FAILS as soon as those in power figure out that they can cement their jobs by giving workers money as handouts to those more than willing to take it. They demand it. Personally, I call them lazy bastards. You can come up with your own name for them. Too many people prefer to take the handouts and leave the work to those willing to work for it. I'm all for helping the impaired to live a decent life style. That's not who this reply is about. The Bible says, if you don't work, you don't eat. That would work if we said it and meant it. Amazing God knows that and those who deny Him are more than willing to thumb their noses at God's word. There will be a judgment day and God is in charge of that too.

Republicanism or voting in geographic (at the time of the Founders this also included economic) groups is a basic principle that protects individual rights from the “tyrannny” of the masses. It creates a compound rather than a simple government. The idea was that the more shattered power was among government institutions, the more protections there were for individual freedom from government. That is why we have power separated among branches of government and among levels of government. That was intentional.

The tendancy among those ignorant of this has always been to cosolidate power. That is what the referrendum is. That is what one man one vote is. That is what collaboration and power sharing through MOUs among regulatory agencies is. That is what centralized government and regionalized government movements are.

At a local meeting last week held in a section of the county that views natural resources as a recreational and aesthetic asset, and not a bread and butter economic asset, a group of people announced that they thought all natural resources should be owned by the community. Suppose they took a vote and they were in the majority? That is what your referendum buys you.
