This site was brought to my attentions and I'm wondering what the astute contributors to FreeRepublic think, Pro & Con, relative to there being a Constitutional Amendment allowing for the general populace to be able enact law by “national referendum”? Apparently there are approximately 26 states that currently allow for referendums to enact law.

Check out this following site to get the drift of this groups intentions: http://www.ni4d.us/

The National Initiative for Democracy is a legal and historical fraud. It claims to follow a precept from George Washington about the right of the people to alter their government. Washington's quote is in line with Jefferson's statement in the Declaration of Independence. HOWEVER....

The Washington quote comes from his Farewell Address to the American People. Also in that statement, Washington said, "Until and unless it is changed by the authentic act of the whole people, the Constitution is sacredly obligatory upon all." By "authentic act of the whole people" he was referring to the process of amendment under Article V of the Constitution.

Any amendment can be proposed at any time. Over 10,000 proposed amendments have been submitted in Congress over the centuries. Only 27 of them have been passed and ratified. It is a deliberately difficult process, to give our Constitution stability.

On their website, these clowns admit that their purpose is to "amend the Constitution" by action of the people, without using Article V. This is a direct assault on the Constitution itself. This is going nowhere. And the people who propose it are constitutionally illiterate. IMHO.

Republicanism or voting in geographic (at the time of the Founders this also included economic) groups is a basic principle that protects individual rights from the “tyrannny” of the masses. It creates a compound rather than a simple government. The idea was that the more shattered power was among government institutions, the more protections there were for individual freedom from government. That is why we have power separated among branches of government and among levels of government. That was intentional.

The tendancy among those ignorant of this has always been to cosolidate power. That is what the referrendum is. That is what one man one vote is. That is what collaboration and power sharing through MOUs among regulatory agencies is. That is what centralized government and regionalized government movements are.

At a local meeting last week held in a section of the county that views natural resources as a recreational and aesthetic asset, and not a bread and butter economic asset, a group of people announced that they thought all natural resources should be owned by the community. Suppose they took a vote and they were in the majority? That is what your referendum buys you.
