I wouldn’t think so, as most paid nothing. And those who did should have understood that this was an advertising model.
However, the quality issue does raise an interesting prospect. That is, while artists would probably like to deliver lossless music to their audience, there are few quality players out there that support the lossless formats.
But is even lossless enough? Few artists ever took advantage of the full stereo effect, with some notable exceptions like the Beatles. But for the audiophiles out there, who want analog quality, perhaps something like one or two megabit/sec instead of 128kb/sec, perhaps the future will portend something like audio Blue-Ray.
Since most listeners have hearing quality even less than 128kb/sec, I doubt this will ever be more than niche retail.
