washington Times ^ | January 4, 2008 | Bill Gertz

Stephen Coughlin, the Pentagon specialist on Islamic law and Islamist extremism, has been fired from his position on the military's Joint Staff. The action followed a report in this space last week revealing opposition to his work for the military by pro-Muslim officials within the office of Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England.

This is OUTRAGEOUS

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs is ultimately responsible for this decision and HIS feet, not those of some "spokesman" should be held to the fire until he explains his actions.

Mr. Coughlin wrote a memorandum several months ago based on documents made public in a federal trial in Dallas that revealed a covert plan by the Muslim Brotherhood, an Egyptian-origin Islamist extremist group, to subvert the United States using front groups. Members of one of the identified front groups, the Islamic Society of North America, has been hosted by Mr. England at the Pentagon.

Well, now, we can't have anyone revealing the truth, can we? Islam is not going to have to attack us with force again - they will literally have infiltrated and taken over all of our institutions within about 10 years.

Outrageous is right!!! I think this whole country is outrageous at this point though. It’s like living in a parallel universe.

We have family and friends in the military, my 17 yr. old son has been corresponding with an Army Lt. and has been giving some thought to joining the military. Between the PC bullsh!t and Huckabee and Obama in Iowa I think just about everyone has gone nuts.

It seems the Bush administration is about as feckless at recognizing the infiltration of Islamist terrorists into our Defense Dept. as they are the invasion of illegal aliens across our borders.
The sooner this bunch leaves office the better.
Too bad we don’t have the parliamentary option of a “no confidence” vote in this country.

Of course we can look forward to aggressive questioning of this decision by Congressional oversight committees and other Members of Congress... or are they too busy trying to ferret out instances of water boarding and harsh language used against those nice young men from the ROP?

Pardon my cynicism, but just how are things going to change?

Will any of the candidates, especially the ones that won in Iowa, take a strong stand against militant Islam? Will they purge the DOD, CIA,State Department or Pentagon of those working to subvert America? Will they defend our borders? Will they shrink government? And if by chance there is someone who would do all that, would they have the majorities in Congress and the support of the Judiciary that is needed to make it happen?

It’s early and I haven’t finished my first cup of coffee, but I doubt it.

It may be closer than I ever thought: Grab your gun and march on Washington and tell EVERYONE voted into or working for the federal government to clear their desks and get the F-—k OUT! This would be the first ‘new beginning’ since 1776.

The truth will not set you free. It will get you fired.

This is not a small matter.

We are never going to win this war if we refuse to look at the truth and correctly identify the enemy. Not only that, but we are allowing that very enemy to dictate the parameters of discussion deep within the bowels of our own military establishment!

This bodes ill for America. Very ill.

Kinda reminds me of the movie "Breaker Morant". In a nutshell the (Brit) High Command decides to sacrifice a few colonial (Australian) soldiers on fabricated charges. The Plan was to curry favor with the enemy (actually Germany) in the hopes of ending the (Boer) war through mediation.

Coughlin is the Breaker.

Breaker (on the way to the firing squad):

“Well Peter, this is what becomes of empire building!”

ALL: Take the football and run:

http://www.andrewbostom.org/blog/2008/01/05/eaton-agonistes-redux/

Here is a quick excerpt:

“Stephen Coughlin understands and enunciates what was stated openly to then Ambassadors John Adams and Thomas Jefferson—and what they apparently understood—by the Tripolitan Ambassador Adja. During his September. 2007 presentation which I witnessed at US Naval War College, Coughlin updated this timeless Islamic formulation into its modern context:

If the Enemy in the War on Terror (WOT) states that he fights jihad in furtherance of Islamic causes that includes the imposition of Shari’a law and the re-establishment of the Caliphate; And Islamic law on jihad exists and is available in English; Then Professionals with WOT responsibilities have an affirmative, personal, professional duty to know the enemy that includes ALL the knowable facts associated with the law of jihad.

And Coughlin, a well-trained lawyer, further argued that such understanding by our military leaders is obligatory if they are to uphold their essential commission:

This is the Professional Standard.

Stephen Coughlin has been fired for reminding his peers of this basic obligation. “

Seems as thought DoD has been infected with State Department “correctness.”

Very sad.
