Dallas Morning News names “illegal immigrant” the 2007 “Texan of the year”

The Sunday edition of the Dallas Morning News carries a lengthy lead editorial extolling the “illegal immigrant” as the 2007 “Texan of the Year.” The full piece is here. (hat tip - Freedom Folks and MM.com readers). I’ll cut to the chase and give you the paper’s rather underwhelming, “on the one hand, on the other hand, time will tell” ending:

"If critics are correct, we could be seeing the advent of the kind of fractiousness that bedevils public life in Canada and other nations where peoples who speak different languages, and come from different cultural backgrounds, live together only with mutual suspicion and unease.

On the other hand, perhaps the alarmists are wrong. Maybe these ambitious, hard-working immigrants, whatever their documentation, will write the next great chapter of a story that’s still deeply American, though with a different accent. If the optimists are right, much work remains to be done to incorporate all immigrants fully into new cultural traditions.

We end 2007 no closer to compromise on the issue than when the year began. People waging a culture war – and that’s what the struggle over illegal immigration is – don’t give up easily. What you think of the illegal immigrant says a lot about what you think of America, and what vision of her you are willing to defend. How we deal with the stranger among us says not only who we Americans are today but determines who we will become tomorrow...."

Oh, brother.

I mean, what is there to say, but: "Oh, brother!"

Illegal immigration is a lot of things, but one thing it is most definitely *not* is a cultural war...

The Dallas Morning Snooze, eh? They do work hard at trying to beat The Austin (anti)American Statesman at being a commie rag.

Years ago, when I lived in the greater DFW area, the Dallas Mourning Newz was the conservative paper, with another paper (the name of which escapes me) was the liberal one. That one went under and, as the only regular Dallas paper, the Newz drifted left. A pox on them - may they repent or face the same fate as the paper whose name I shall not speak.

This is what I sent to the Dallas Morning News letters to the editor. It probably won’t be seen anywhere but here, but here’s what I sent.

Give me your tired, your poor, the would be welfare mothers having babies on my penny,
Give me your car thieves, the drug smugglers, and murdering MS-13,
All collecting WIC and welfare and free schooling paid for us,
Then demand ever more rights without paying taxes,
If they can ignore immigration laws and never pay SS taxes,
(EIC they sometimes collect),
Can we make it fair by letting the rest of us ignore the almighty IRS?
If there is to be a Texas of the Year,
It should be the taxpayers paying for it all, I fear.

"We can't seem to live with him and his family, and if we can live without him, nobody's figured out how," the story posted on The Dallas Morning News Web site on Saturday said.

How about cleaning your own house, yard and keeping your own kids?!!! That's how you live without ILLEGALS! And if you aren't living without them you are cheating the taxpayer's by not reporting their wages!

The DMN is totally into open borders. AS their circulation goes down, they become more and more liberal.

As the print news media disintegrates they’re not going out with a whimper. They’re going out with a psychotic scream.

I like it! Call and say you are cancelling your subscription. They get all your info and can't find the subscription. They ask when you took it out. Reply--Dec.1, 2009. With the brains that write and approve this kind of editorial, see how long it takes them to catch on after you give the date.
