Muslim Brides Undergoing Painful Vaginal Surgery to 'Re-virginize' for Wedding Nights
Foxnews.com ^ | 12/17/07

On her wedding night, Aisha Salim will hand her blooded sheets to her in-laws as proof of her virginity, according to a story in The Daily Telegraph of Australia.

But there’s one problem. Being a modern English university graduate, she is far from the traditional untouched Muslim bride.

Like most woman her age, Salim has smoked, drank, had sex and even lived with one of her past boyfriends.

However, if the devout Muslim family of her soon-to-be husband – or even her own family – knew this, she could be murdered.

Aisha has opted to have her virginity surgically restored in a delicate but painful surgery called hymenoplasties -- where the hymen is re-created from the already torn tissue, or a new membrane is inserted.

"If my husband cannot prove to his family that I am a virgin, I would be hounded, ostracised and sent home in disgrace,” Salim told England’s Daily Mail.

“My father, who is a devout Muslim, would regard it as the ultimate shame. The entire family could be cast out from the friends and society they hold dear, and I honestly believe that one of my fanatically religious cousins or uncles might kill me in revenge, to purge them of my sins. Incredible as it may seem, honour killings are still accepted within our religion.

Wy would a woman marry someone who's family is willing to kill her over this? I just can't figure these people out, I give up.

But if you are willing to marry someone whose family would kill you over this, how about just arranging to have a secret nosebleed on your wedding night and calling it even? Women as property ping.

Then why is she doing this interview with her name revealed? Unless they’ve changed it...

They may be able to make her bleed...but they cannot restore her virginity. When it's gone...it's gone. That's a decision she made that cannot be undone.

Sounds like she is scared of all of them.

how about just arranging to have a secret nosebleed on your wedding night...

Why secret? When the husband is done he can just pop her one and cause a not so secret nosebleed. The Koran makes it clear that as long as he does not beat her with anything bigger than his thumb, everything is copascetic. She is, after all, just property.

And you're still in that religion -- why?

Here’s an radical idea Aisha. How about standing up and repudiating a moronic, violent, stupid, archaic, 12th century treat-women-as-chattel religion that has mentally and physically assaulted you, imprisoined you, and humilated you. Goats get better treatment in Muslim countries.

The entire family could be cast out from the friends and society they hold dear,

Has no one noticed that this girl put her entire family at great risk by her actions. Right or wrong, I think she was selfish to risk her family's well being.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this. I'm not saying it's okay that the family's society works this way. Here's an example. Larry Craig's selfish actions caused shame to his entire family. Was he not thoughtless and uncaring about his loved ones? Was he not a rotten SOB?

Just can’t figure these people out, Abathar? Perhaps I can help. You are rational, or at least you seem to be rational, in that you pose your question from a logical premise. The Muslims, largely, are not rational. Got it? You, rational, Muslims, irrational. You, sane, Muslims, somewhat less so. Need more data? Publish some political cartoons and observe Muslim reaction (from a secure tactical position).
